Controversial Comedy Bruno Banned In Ukraine
British funnyman Sasha Baron Cohen's hit new movie Bruno has been banned by authorities in the Ukraine amid fears the controversial comedy will "damage the morality" of locals.
The outrageous film, starring Cohen as gay Austrian fashionista Bruno, has been a success in the U.S. and U.K., debuting atop box office charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
But officials in the eastern European country are refusing to allow it to be released in their cinemas because of the "unjustified" shots of genitals and homosexual sex scenes. The decision to ban the film came after nine out of the culture ministry's 14 members agreed to veto its release.
Explaining the ruling in a letter to the country's film distributor Sinergia, officials say: "The Ukrainian ministry of culture has decided to ban all showings of this film on Ukrainian territory.
"The film contains unjustified showing of genital organs and sexual relations and shows homosexual acts and homosexual perversions in an explicitly realist manner. (It also contains) sadistic manifestations which could damage the morality of citizens."

A (straight) friend of mine saw this last week and thought it was funny but cringeworthy in places. Personally I can't stand the guy and have no desire to see it, but if it comes on TV I might sneak a glance to see what the fuss is about!
We've had a lot of movies come onto mainstream UK TV that I never thought would, so I doubt this will be an exception.
I have seen only the trailer :p
What about Sacha Baron Cohen, is he str8, gay?!
The thing I like to know is, is this movie made to promote anti-homophobia or maybe to make a joke with the homosexuality?

I have no idea!! I think Sasha Baron Cohen likes to stir things up a bit , as he did with his last character. He just does not appeal to me at all, but I do like a rebel and anyone who stirs the shit :p So in that aspect I like him, but, like I said above, he just annoys me somewhat. I know a lot find him funny, but I can't.
Maybe I'm being harsh , but I have never liked anyone who has to get into character to stir it - we've had several like that on TV over here who think it's funny to insult and be offensive whilst in character, I say do it as yourself if that's what you really feel!!

He's straight. But actually really good-looking when not in character.
Haven't seen the movie yet, but even though he uses some gay stereotypes, his target are definitely homophobes. That's why he uses the disguise of Brüno, to confront homophobic people with their own worst fears.
I actually really like him.
I dont care for him much myself, but when it comes out on dvd, ill rent it, and see:p

Saw the movie... and I have NEVER been so shocked or cringed quite so much for a movie...lol. Laughed my sox off... If nothin else, u gotta admit the guy has guts to do some of the crazy shit he's done in there...
I must admit, I'm not a fan of his movies or his show on tele, but Sasha is funny and quite intelligent:)

I laughed my foolish head off at Borat - but you don't have to watch it before Brüno, both films are completely unrelated.

I saw the movie with some of my straighter friends, and they thought it was hilarious, as did I. Then again, we all have a sense of humor like a 13 year old boy soooooooo........\
I felt it was to show what people in America think of homosexuality, and the cultural differences between different, not sure the word but I want to say class, of people.
There was some rather indepth hidden messages though too.

I just watched it (finally!) and it was good. I think I loved Borat more, but I guess that's because it seemed even more outrageous and was the first one, but this was also good.
But OMG how creepy were those parents auditioning for their babies?

I saw it yesterday, shocking and funny. Indeed, the parents auditioning, especially that woman was reaaally f*d up!
The scene in the wrestling arena with the rednecks was soooooo lol!!

Brilliant film, Sacha is a genius comedian, always on the button and a very good spokes person for all forms of tolerance and acceptance. Don't understand why any government would want to ban his work, taking that stance just makes a mockery of them and their narrow minded antiquated attitudes and simply proves what we already know, that they have no clue about anything. Borat was awesome as was the original early Ali G character. I raise my hat to him.

Shocking was my first reaction. It was funny, but not nearly so as Borat. After all of the hype, I felt let down.
