Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended transgender congres
Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has opened an international congres about transgenders in the VU medical center in Amsterdam on june 18.
At this conres over 800 professionals from the international medical world will come together to exchange knowledge and expiriences in the field of gender dysforia. People with gender dysphoria are discontent with regard to the sex in which they were born and raised. In the Netherlands, about 1,000 people in 2015 were referred to the three gender centers (Amsterdam*, Groningen and Leiden).
* the gender clinic at the VUmc is one of the biggest and most specialized centers of it's kind in the world.
The theme of the congress is 'Growing: Empowerment, Expertise, Evidence'. Queen Máxima has opened the conference and has attended the lecture 'Transgender Holland, sixty years of culture and care'.
The congres was organized by Trans Vision Care and the VU University Medical Knowledge and Care Centre for Gender dysphoria. The conference is under the auspices of the WPATH, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, an international association of professionals gender care.
