Politicians in the Macedonian Assembly have voted to ban same-sex marriage. The proposal came from the conservative government and was supported by two-thirds of members of the national assembly in a vote on Wednesday (Jan 5th)...
Sarajevo (February 1, 2014) - About a dozen masked people stormed into the Merlinka Festival, a cultural event at the Sarajevo art cinema Kriterion at about 3:20 p.m. on February 1, a staff member from the Sarajevo Open Center, which organized the event, told Human Rights Watch. The attackers shouted homophobic insults such as, “There will be no [Pride] parade in Sarajevo” and, “There will be no faggots in Sarajevo,” then attacked three of the participants. Two were hospitalized with minor injuries and psychological trauma. A police investigation is underway, but no arrests have been made.
I do not exclude that at this aggression have also participated policemen in plainclothes. It is no secret that police forces around the world have sympathy for the extreme right.
I think bigsal makes a valid point. It is quite possible the police or some covert arm of the government was involved with this attack. At the very least they would know who the attackers were. It's hard to believe otherwise. I will be surprised if there are any arrests made unless it's someone from the Sarajevo Open Center for some trumped up charges.
