Fried fine rice noodles with crab meat
In 1972, I paid a visit to a cousin who has been a long-time New Yorker. She took me to dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant that reputedly catered the Chinese diplomats that negotiated Nixon’s China visit. A dish that remains vivid in my memory to this day was the fried fine rice noodles with crab meat and I have been looking for a workable recipe for it although I was also blindly attempting to replicate it in my own kitchen. A Cantonese TV program finally featured a Chef that specializes in it. Here are a couple of screen shots from the show .

Mamofuku's Milk Bar Crack Pie

Fresh fruit terrine is a nice new name to slap on something ubiquitous once upon a time in another place (fifties America) that was called molded fruit salad. Glamorous hostesses (in print ads) made them for all gatherings, harried cooks made them for school cafeterias. They were so colourful, benign looking and easily within reach for use as projectiles at food fights, attracting police attention because they are congealed weapons after all.

For the first time, I picked up a six pound Hami melon, a variety of cantaloupe that originally came from Xinjiang. It’s not much sweeter than cantaloupe or honey dew, although as seen in this picture, the flesh looks like a very light coloured cantaloupe and seems not as flavourful and aromatic either. It is noisy crunchy to eat.
