What will be left once our sun burns out and this planet is no more?

Just... nothing?

Judging from the size of our sun, there'll be a neutron star left.
I'm sorry but this is not the philosophical question you want it to be, it's a matter of astrophysics.

Not quite the sun but just us...

There will come soft rains/ Ray Bradbury

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

So true. Also the saying by Neitzche 'God is dead'. The real meaning is: man is now the god. But is he? Who will notice 1 or 5 million years after the last man has ceased to exist? OR 20 million. Whatever. This planet is young and that means 4.5 billions years old. A mere bud. A child. And it doesn't revolve around us !

Apparently many of the stars we see in the night sky burned out to nothingness eons ago. But it takes all these light years for their image to reach us. So we see them as still there, mere images from worlds vanquished long, long ago.

It is stunning how tiny we are. Tiny and utterly fleeting.

1st World PORN Problems;)

I hate to be negative but I struggle with what humanity could contribute to the millions of universes out there...Amazon.com? Our political philosophies? (PLEASE!:duh:) Our planet itself is beautiful beyond belief with it's diversity but to everyone else out there it might just be a picture book...I'm sure their own planets are amazing as well. We're not that special...yet we do have value. We just have to find it within ourselves and reject HATE.;)

I try...I try...

peace buddies,

So, you are saying whenever we look at the night sky we are seeing the past? It's all an illusion, things that aren't really there? :eek:

What do you hate?

Is that hate really justified?

Only a perfect being is pure love. And who would claim to be that? ;)

Spot on. For the stars that disappeared long ago anyway.

You know sometimes you watch someone being interviewed live on the news, but from a faraway country. The is a delay from when the interviewer asks a question, and the interviewee hears it via their ear piece. There is a pause and at times the interview seems out of sync.

With stars it is like the interviewer asks the question, and them the news program cameras swing around to look at the interviewee... but he is a skeleton already! Only worse than that, he has evaporated into complete nothingness.

Distance matters. And those stars sure are an awful long way away. A dead star that we see is an illusion, but an awfully pretty one.

Aha! But how do we know if it is or isn't dead?
Most of stars we see, to the naked eye, are within our galaxy. Someone just '1000' light years away may likely not see our sun by its magnitude, yet we're here living on a planet orbiting it. If we rely mostly on our sight we may easily exclude what's out there into nothingness. Telescopes help but they do not comprehend consciously.
I guess simultaneous existence is the best shot. If we see it, then it exists as it's being perceived right here and now by us because there is 'something' in us which transcends space and time. But it doesn't hurt either way, right? ;)

Back to the OP, we ought to survive the event to physically know what's left after the cause. If we are to perish with the effects, then we simply lose touch with the physical reality. Also, it may take quite some time for such an event to come about. By then, we must have evolved out of this solar system and be an outside observer to find out!

If you were a star, you'd still be visible nonetheless. However some stars are people still waiting for their rapidshare and oron downloads to finish and they are still just a visible from millions of lights years away.:p

The Sun will burn out when it will burn out. It cares not a fig what we do or how many of us there are.

When that happens, no more man.

What then?

If your very best friend wonders about death as he dies, would you say to him 'so what'.

You are a thoughtful poster I think, and you would not!

If our extinction is inevitable perhaps it is time to consider what is beyond this physical realm. Call it God or call it the Twelfth dimension. :rofl:

Surely man must have an ultimate purpose beyond the fleeting issues of the day. In one blink of this planet we will all be gone. What happens with the next blink? Why pretend to care? We should really care.:)
