In here halloween is no traditional party, even though market forces are trying. Halloween party means just one more reason to drink, no one really cares about dressing up in here:p

For dressing up we have another party, but it's not translated into english. And usually the also people mostly drink, some may have costume, but usually it's just some hat or smth else small. Then in the morning you've lost it, and for some reason can't remember where:D

I know that Hallowen is a very BIG thing in the US. Some days ago I heard on the news that this year Halloween spending will hit a record $9.1 billion.

But in Slovenia is October 31st just an ordinary autumn day. OK, not just an ordinary day, it is Reformation Day, a religious and public holiday. It is celebrated in remembrance of the Protestant Reformation.

In the middle of the 90's Halloween slowly started to gain in popularity in Slovenia, but it still remains a rather marginal festivity. Halloween is not as popular or economically important as some ther ''imported'' celebrations such as St. Valentine's Day.

Celebrations are relatively rare and localised, that is they are organised only in certain night clubs. There are no Halloween movies on local TV channels around the time of Halloween as there are, for example, Christmas movies at Christmas time.

Only some elements of Halloween are slowly being appropriated such as curving pumpinks and, only partly, dressing up. For example, one would have a hard time buying a mask in a local store or supermarket as only specialised stores sell masks at this time.

Wishing you a happy Halloween filled with loads of great adventures! ;)

The same here in Berlin/Germany (or better in whole Germany). Only little children will go with their moms during the evening through the streets (here in Berlin only on the outskirts of the city), ringing at the doors and asking for sweets. I think too that Halloween is a special day for the USA and they tried it to import it to Europe but until now without any great success.

It’s a special night that folks take days to prepare for in certain regions of Canada, in Newfoundland and remote towns mostly, where grown ups disguised themselves and paid visits to people they don’t care to see the rest of the year. I worked with a pathetic character in Calgary once who had a falling out with his twin sister but knocked at her door on halloween incognito. I did not get what’s it all about but he acted as though he got so much kick out of it too.

To answer the question though, I'm old so maybe I shall pass myself as newly deceased.

Big, big deal around these parts. Halloween is seen as some kind of gay birthright. It starts the week before with the annual high-heel race down 17th street.

Then the parties begin - everywhere. It's like a week-long thing. Lots of interesting costumes.

My favorite costume last year was Tom Daley walking around LA dressed as Kermit the Frog.

We dress up at work, but the costumes must be "Family Friendly", so nothing sexy, scary, gory, or political. So as a fat, balding, middle-age man with a goatee and a pony-tail, the answer is obvious...
