8 Reasons Hot Tubs in The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff Are Awesome

8 Reasons Hot Tubs in The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff Are Awesome

It fits up to eight Sims. In the past, hot tubs could only fit two or four Sims. We wanted to up the ante this time, allowing eight Sims to enjoy the comforting water. That’s a full household of Sims, all enjoying the hot tub together!

Adults and children can relax inside. While you might have thought hot tubbin’ was only for grownups, but in The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff, children can sit in the hot tub alongside adults, teens, and elderly Sims.

You can put it just about anywhere. Want to put the hot tub inside? Cool. Do it! In the basement? That’s fine. Against a wall? Sure. In a corner? Why not!? Sims will find their way into and out of the hot tub basically anywhere you put it. They’re clever like that.

Sims can watch TV from in the hot tub. Previously, Sims inside of hot tubs really only interacted with people and things inside with it. Now, Sims can chat with people on the outside, and even watch a TV within viewing range. Basically, we’re saying you can replace all of your couches with hot tubs.

Your Sims can bring drinks inside. Did you ever have a hot tub when you were younger? Did your parents yell at you for trying to sneak a drink inside because you might spill it? Well good news! They’re not the boss of your The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff hot tub. Go ahead – tell your Sim to take that juice right inside. We won’t tell.

Sims can skinny dip in the hot tub. Sure, the stuff pack includes a number of playful bathing suits for your Sims, but if they’re feeling more – erm – adventurous, they can take to the tub in the nude.

It can be upgraded with a stereo and aromatherapy. What’s more relaxing than sitting in calming, warm water? Sitting in calming, warm water while fun music plays and pleasant aromas emerge from your Sim’s recently upgraded hot tub. You can even change the color of the light in the hot tub, but that’s not an update – that comes standard. Fancy, right?

The aromatherapy has a devious Easter egg. Yeah, there’s a really cool Easter egg. Want to know what it is? Lean in, we’ll whisper it to you… ready? HA! Just kidding. It’s an Easter egg, we’re not revealing anything else! You need to find it for yourself!

The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack is Coming Soon!

A Relaxing Trip to the Spa :thumbs up:

fter getting to work in April, we figured your Sims could use even more Zen – and what’s more relaxing than a luxurious spa? The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack* is coming later this month!
As you might expect, The Sims 4 Spa Day includes a new type of venue, the Spa. When you get the pack, three new Maxis-made Spas and a new gym will be added to your My Library, to be placed wherever you want. They come in various shapes and sizes, so you can find the Spa that best suits your personality (or, of course, you can make your own).

Once at the Spa, Sims can hang out (and WooHoo!) in a sauna or get a relaxing massage. There are a number of fun new interactive objects for your Sims to enjoy in the Spa, from the massage chair to the mud bath, which we will reveal more about soon. But that’s not all that’s included in the game pack.

Your Sims can also build Wellness skill by giving massages, doing Yoga, and Meditating. The more they take part in these new activities, the better they’ll get at each. Higher Wellness means new Yoga poses, the ability to give superior Massages, and a special Meditation surprise that we don’t want to spoil for you!

7 Things You Need to Know About The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack

7 Things You Need to Know About The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack

Ready to Relax?

The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack* is coming on July 14, and we’re really excited for everyone to get their hands on it! In the announcement last week, we talked about how this game pack includes the Spa as a new type of Venue, a bunch of great new objects, and even the new Wellness Skill. Today, we wanted to dig a little deeper into the experiences and gameplay that await when you download the pack.

There are three new Maxis-made Spas, as well as a new Gym. After downloading The Sims 4 Spa Day, you’ll notice four new buildings in your My Library page within The Gallery. There are three Spas, ready to be plopped in any 20x30 lot you want. Aham Ashram Yoga Studio focuses on offering top tier yoga instruction; Center of Center Massage provides highly-trained masseuses and reflexologists to work out all your kinks; and Perfect Balance Spa has everything to enhance your wellness including a sauna and meditation! There’s also a Gym that includes some of the new objects found in the game pack.

You can make your own Spa. Of course, if you’re feeling creative and want to make a Spa of your own, you’re able to do that too. Once you’re done, you can share it to The Gallery and watch as Simmers from all around the world comment on and download your relaxing establishment.

The Wellness Skill gives your Sim a ton of new stuff to do. Practicing yoga, giving massages, and meditating all improve your Sim’s Wellness Skill. The higher the Wellness Skill, the better they’ll be at striking those Yoga poses and giving great, special-purpose massages. They’ll even be able to make new recipes with special benefits!

Meditation masters earn supernatural Interactions. Ever notice that people who Meditate just seem a little… calmer? Almost, like, supernaturally calm? Sims who work up their Wellness become capable of levitation and, eventually, teleportation. Talk about Zen.

Your Sims can WooHoo (or die!) in the Sauna. Saunas are more than just a place to unwind. When two amorous Sims are alone in the room, there’s a special WooHoo only available with the Sauna. But it’s not all fun and games – your Sim might meet their end if they spend too much time getting a Superfluous Steaming.

There’s a new Mud Bath with several soaks to choose from. If your Sim is looking for a safer form of relaxation, the Mud Bath in The Sims 4 Spa Day can give them just that. Laying in the mud can give your Sim the Confident moodlet while the other soaks can have different results: the Rose Garden Scent will have them leaving Flirty, the Baby Soft Skin soak has them feeling Happy. Others soaks can negate negative buffs caused by being Sad or Angry.

Nearly all of the items can be used outside of the Spa. Don’t feel like sending your Sim over to a Spa? No worries – just about everything that your Sims can do in Spas, they can do at home, too. They can install a Sauna in the basement or toss a Meditation Stool in the living room. Moreover, mud baths and soaks are available in nearly every type of tub!

The Sims 4 Spa Day comes out worldwide on July 14!

Locked Doors and Half Walls

Locked Doors and Half Walls Are Now Available in a Free Update!

Lock that Door

Want to keep customers out of the back room of your Sim’s retail store? Want to lock the door to your Sim’s room so they can crank up the music and have a dance party for one? Want gender-specific changing rooms in your gym? Boot up The Sims 4 and you’ll be able to download an Update to the game that’ll let you do just that! Locked doors are coming to The Sims 4, and they’re going to be free* for everyone who downloads the Update. They’ll be joined by half walls, which will let you divide areas while still keeping them open and modern.

First, let’s talk about locked doors. After the release of The Sims 4 Get to Work* we heard the calls for employee-only rooms loud and clear, so we made sure to include that option. There are also more standard locks, like the ability to lock a door so only your Sim can get in, or being able to lock it for a household. If you’re tired of random Sims walking into your Sim’s room and taking a nap on their bed at 2:00AM, you’ll be able to prevent that with door locks. We’ve also added new gender-specific doors to the catalog, which open up some cool possibilities for improvements to some of the Venues in the game.

Half walls were exciting to work on, too. Most of the time, we’ve seen players asking for them to put around their counters, so we absolutely included a size that works for that. But we also wanted to allow for more creativity, so we added four additional sizes, bringing the total number of half wall sizes to five.

The three medium heights give you a range of options for living room dividers, borders for stoves and counters, or eye-level spots to hold fancy decorations. They’re also a handy place to put your drink! We also added a low (1-1/2’ height) wall that works great as an architectural border piece, as well as a tall wall that can be used to make enclosed spaces within rooms, especially when using taller full-height walls. Half walls are super easy to place, too – if you’ve ever put a fence down in The Sims 4, you already know how to build a half wall.

The Update is now available, so get ready to start building half walls and locking doors – and don’t forget to share your new creations on The Gallery when you do!

Ice Cream Flavors to Create

5 Fantastical Ice Cream Flavors to Create in The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff

There are 30 different flavors to create, many of which you’re likely familiar with. Vanilla? Yeah, it’s in there. Chocolate? You’d better believe it. Orange Sorbet, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Rainbow Sherbet? Obviously. But besides the flavors you’d expect to find at your nearest freezer, there are some that are a little more… outstanding.

Dragon's Breath proves that ice cream doesn’t have to be cold! Well, that’s not entirely true – it’s still cold, it’s also just a little… hot. Like, make your Sim’s mouth burn hot. Like, they might mistakenly catch on fire if they eat it hot.

Haunted Mint is the spookiest of the ice cream flavors in the stuff pack. Yes, you read that right: spooky. As the name suggests, Haunted Mint is indeed a ghostly treat. Sims that eat it not only get a buff, but they might be visited by an apparition after they finish their snack. Boooooo!

Twin Roses is so full of flavor, your Sims might just get Flirty after they eat it. Well, that’s how older Sims react, at least. Children that try Twin Roses end up Happy, instead, proving that the ice cream is the perfect treat for everyone.

Plant Matter is one of those fancy schmancy ice creams made from “natural” ingredients. Sims that eat it will have a desire to relax in the water – plants need water, after all. Also, ever hear the term “you are what you eat?” That applies here, too, so… uh… watch out for leaves.

Chilling Mocha might not actually give your Sim a brain freeze, but it’ll do the next best thing: let your Sim give others a freeze. After chowing down on the Chilling Mocha, your Sim might get a special one-time-use Interaction called Chilling Touch which does just what it sounds like. (Warning: There’s also a chance your Sim will turn blue after eating it. Just FYI!)

The Sims 4 Get Together’s Clubs

How The Sims 4 Get Together’s Clubs Let Sims Break the Rules

At gamescom, we revealed The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack*, coming this November. It adds the new European-inspired World of Windenburg, fun group activities, new Skills, and a brand new feature called Clubs that allows Sims to totally break the rules of the game.

Sims have autonomy in The Sims 4, which is a fancy way of saying they do their own thing when you let them. First, they’ll try to do whatever they physically need (like eating or sleeping), then, they’ll do what their Traits tell them to do (like being Flirty or Mischievous). Clubs allow you to create new rules for Sims that supersede the logic they typically follow.

Getting Together

When you create a Club in The Sims 4 Get Together, you can pick their preferred hangout location, choose what they wear when they get together, and decide who is allowed into your Club. However, Clubs are much more than just groups of Sims – they’re groups that will follow a set of guidelines set by you, which works extremely well with a simulation-driven game.

Should the Fitness Crew meet at the Gym, or work out in the middle of the town square? Should Sims in the Child life stage be allowed in? Should only children be allowed in? What about their outfits? Typical workout attire, or formal wear? You can encourage them to be mean to the Romance Club, or get romantic with the Misfit Club.

But here’s where it gets really cool: once your Sims are together with their Club (or what we refer to internally as a Club Gathering), they can act against the things they’d typically do if the rules of the Club dictate it. Characteristically peaceful Sims might start a brawl if they’re in a Fight Club, and shy Sims could end up being amorous if their Flirty Club encourages it.

These rules will only supercede behavior when your Sim is in a Club Gathering. When we first started out, we wanted the Club rules to apply all the time. We quickly realized that if this was the case, Sims’ lives would be overrun by Clubs and the Sims normal behaviors would never shine through. They’d also run into problems with rules from different Clubs if they clashed, keeping them in a constant state of conflict. What if my Sim is in one club that loves to watch TV and another club that hates it?

Besides spending time on making sure the rules worked, we also burned out a lot of markers doodling on the whiteboard to make sure you were able to quickly figure out who around you was in a Club. The result is fairly simple, and lets you hover over Sims to learn their name and which Clubs they’re members of, and quickly scan an area to see which Clubs are having a gathering, and who is the leader of the different Clubs.

Taking Control

On that same note, we wanted to make sure those different Clubs were just that: different. We aspired to let players do anything and everything with Clubs, which actually led to a potential problem… how the heck do we even display all those choices? We have hundreds of interactions in the game, and sorting through all of them would be overwhelming. When we hit moments such as this, we fall back on our instincts as Sim players, gamers, and storytellers. We began creating hypothetical groups, normal and strange, and realized that we could group many of the choices into these different buckets and let the Sims dynamically choose specific items within that category.

For example, instead of saying “This Club likes to Kiss, Flirt, and use Pick Up Lines,” players will instead say that the “Club likes to Flirt,” which encompasses all those things. You can still get more specific, choosing targets for your rules if you’d like. Want to make a Club that likes to Fight and be Mean, but only to members of a specific other Club? You can do that!

Your Clubs can have 10 rules total (5 encouraged rules and 5 discouraged). We’re still tinkering with that number, but we think we found the sweet spot. If your Sim had 20 things they were trying to do, you wouldn’t be able to tell that they had a unique behavior. At that point, they just look like… normal Sims. This number lets you create unique Clubs that’ll lead to Sims doing things that will stand out and read as different and interesting.

Your Clubs, Your Rules

We want players to create Clubs for anything and everything they love doing in the game. From making a creative club that enjoys painting or music, to a Service Club that hilariously comes over to your home to fix and clean things. Players will be able to create any Club that fits their play style, and play any way they like – we think that the way these Clubs change the day-to-day gameplay of The Sims 4 creates incredible possibilities.

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff

Scare Up Some Fun in The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff, Coming Soon. Your Sims are in for a scream

Your Sims are in for a scream

Double, trouble boils below;
Tombstones smoke and caldrons glow.
Tempt the Spooky Candy Bowl,
Carve a Pumpkin for passed souls!

In other words, we’re happy to announce that The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff* is coming on September 29, and comes with the stuff you need to plan and execute the perfect Spooky Party.

Transform your Sim’s home with ghoulishly fun decorations, including creepy paintings, spider webs, and all manner of tattered furniture. Want to temporarily (or… permanently) turn your Sim’s home into a creepy house of horrors? Go for it.

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff includes two new gameplay objects: the mischievous Spooky Candy Bowl and a new Pumpkin Carving Station. Your Sims can make festive works of carved art, creating the jack-o-lantern of their dreams. And once they’re done, Ghost Sims can take a candle-lit pumpkin, put it on their head, and haunt up the night!

If you’re looking to throw a Spooky Party (a new type of party in The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff), you can do just that. Besides being able to decorate your Sim’s home with the new objects to set the eerie mood, there are also three new ghoulish recipes: an Eyeball Cheese Plate, Zombie Cake, and Spooky Cookies. You can even ask other Sims for party treats (though don’t be surprised if they play a trick on your Sim instead).

A variety of new costumes are also available to help make your party stand out, from Pirates and Ninjas to Super Llamas and Fairies, there are a bunch of great outfits for Sims young and old. Of course, these costumes aren’t restricted to use at Spooky Parties, either – if you want to dress your Sim like a Witch year-round, you can totally do that.

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff releases worldwide on September 29 – are you excited to throw a party that everyone will be dying to attend?

PC 1.51.77.1020 / Mac 1.51.77.1220

Hi Simmers,

We wanted to swiftly address some unintentional issues that popped up following the 4/16 game update.

Fixed an issue where custom text was not always displaying properly in-game.
Fixed an issue where NPC invites to festivals or to residences were sending Sims to an incorrect destination.
There is still a lingering issue regarding invites to events in Get Famous, such as the talent showcase, and celebrity sightings. We are continuing to investigate those for a future update.
Fixed an issue where Mac players on certain older versions of OS X were unable to launch the game. As a result, we rolled back a fix that was done for Mac players on 64-bit systems that eliminated a false error message which said, “The Sims 4” is not optimized for your Mac and needs to be updated.”
