I don't have the slightest interest in Dr Who as a tv show but the original music is something else. One Saturday afternoon in 1963, six million people heard a new type of music that was nothing like anything they had ever heard before. This was long before Kraftwerk, and long before electronic musical instruments like the synthesizer existed. The tune was assembled on three mono tape recorders, one for the rhythm track, one for melody and one for effects. In the photo, Delia Derbyshire, who did most of the work on this recording, points out the bank of 12 oscillators which generated the tones which were the basis of the music.
As you can see from the video, this was so long ago that even the LSD came in black and white only.
