I've recently been reading Glenn Chandler's book The Sins of Jack Saul (Second Edition) The true story of Dublin Jack and the Cleveland Street Scandal. (2016).

It's a good read about the two most explosive British scandals in the Late Victorian period, concerning male prostitution and male brothels (the Dublin Castle Scandal 1883-84 and the Cleveland Street Affair 1889-90) and a fashinating young rent boy who appeared in them both: Jack Saul, born in deep poverty in Dublin 29 October 1857 and passed away in tuberculosis 28 August 1904.

But Jack wasn't just a rent boy who had sex with horny lords, military officers and high ranking civil servants - he also wrote what could be called one of the first gay porn novels, The Sins of the Cities of the Plain, published in 1881.

Early Turn of the 20thh Century England; "Below Stairs," 2 parts, by Mel Gough.

For those who may be looking for authors who serve up reliably viable and very hot gay romances, check out Felice Stevens, Andrew Gret, Romeo Alexander and Erin O'Quinn (search for them on Goodreads or Amazon). Each of them has very diversified tropes, eras, settings (i.e., enemies to lovers, cowboys, military, historical, sexual identity issues, etc.). You will be overwhelmed by the choices you have and thrilled with any of their works.
