I'll focus on my parents. I had secretly left college in Georgia for California with a guy and without them knowing (they were paying the bill), and he was a problem child, at best. A true blue alcoholic and with a violent temper. One night during a drunken stupor, and his pathetic attempts to have sex, which by that point sickened me, I finally just pushed him away and left the room. Next thing I know, I hear him on the phone and as I get closer I hear him talking about "banging your son", "dick in his butt" sucking ur son's cock", and on and on. I went into the room and he says, your mom wants to talk to you and I get on the phone and my heart just sank when I heard my mom on the line. I totally lost it, picked up a beer bottle and smashed it upside his head. Ultimately, he had a scratch, I ripped tendons in my wrist and had 4 surgeries and I didnt speak to my parents for a year. I think I would have been better off doing the musical routine..lol.

Well I too came out in phasese. I started at the end of middle school which was back in 2000. I told my close friends only, they were all ok with it. When I came out to my best friend he told me that it was cool and that we would still be friends. It got awkwardly silent after that and a Irish Spring commercial came on with a guy soaping up, my best friend looked at me and jokingly said i bet you love that commercial. I just started laughing and did he, at that point I knew he was cool with it.

Now when I was in highschool it was so much easier to again come out to friends. From that other friends who were gay or bicurious came to me, I think only a few trully came out now. In highschool I did come out to my dad but by accident. Had no intention of telling him but I thought I would just say it to divert his attention from my bad grades. I almost wanted to laugh at his response, it was str8 out of some tv show, with I will always love you , you are my son and that will never change. It was cute but still a little cheesy. THen he started pestering me about sex. Thank God he dropped it.

After that he was so prepared for me to be gay all the way, when i went to prom he thought I was going to be taking a boy, I told him I was taking a girl, he was like a girl, oh ok. Since then we have never talked about my orientation but our relationship did become better.

Recently I have been out to who ever asks me. If they ask I will just say yes I am. Actually some people got pissed I hid it from them and told others. I am not a person to go out and flaunt my sexuality. I still have some more coming out to do but at the moment I have had pretty much a good response from people.

Well, I'm a weird one :p

I came out - not a problem with anybody at all!! This was in less enlightened times and a good friend was actually more put out because I hadn't mentioned it before!

Then some time later I had to "come in" as I started to fancy girls again!! That was actually more difficult, and I did lose friends at the time! Some who always thought of me as gay couldn't seem to handle it!

Long standing close friends stuck with me, and always will do. In all outward appearances I'm now "straight", but it's not an act, I do actually (in real life) eye up more girls than boyz .

I just have this secret gay / bi porn stash that not everybody knows about LOL :p

I think my parents had a tought time when a came out...

I was really depressed (wonder why) and had not slept for maybe three or for days...
I got up during the night and left a note on the dinner table simply saying "I'm gay"
I finally got to sleep after that, but when I woke up the next morning, it took me at least an hour to gather the courage to get up(one of the hardest thing I've done in my life). Hopefully, my parents where very glad I told them and didn't care at all...

They are Thor...that year of not speaking or seeing each other and being 3000 miles away (me in CA, parents in nj) allowed them the time to consider the options...accept me or never see me again. So, I received a call from my mom asking me to visit, all paid, and it was ok to bring my "friend" (I had ditched the other guy and met the man I would be with for 19 yrs...and it was my sister who told them I had a "friend"), so when we arrived at their house, they had set up the extra room in the attic for us both with one bed, so it was then I knew they had accepted the fact that I was gay. I won't say they ever jumped for joy or did sommersaults that I was gay, but from then on its all been ok.

Seph that was beautifully written!!

Everybody is very different. It's one of the things life teaches you. I always love the diversity of people in life. Not one of you should ever feel awkward or embarrassed of who you are.

I know, I live in an area of the world that is more tollerant to diversity, that in some ways hardly notices! I was lucky, but it makes me stronger by having done so and makes me more able to help others where I can.

Such interesting recounts here, I thank you for sharing them. It's often the first step in becoming more confident!!

There are some great people on this board and if we stick together and look after each other we will be an unstoppable force ;)

Love you guys xxx :) :)
