In 1523, Gustav Vasa was elected king of a free Sweden, and on the same date in 1809, the country adopted a new constitution.
National Day of Sweden ("Sveriges nationaldag") is a national holiday observed in Sweden on 6 June. Prior to 1983, the day was celebrated as the Swedish Flag Day ("Svenska flaggans dag").
In 2004, the Swedish parliament voted to make it a public holiday, which may cause people to become more interested in celebrating it.

"Tillykke med dagen" is a very common phrase in Norwegian, saying "Happy Birthday" or in Swedish "Grattis på födelsedagen"!

Thank you Golfdelta for this rich pictured report of D-Day - very, very interesting.
And may I make to mention of that my Grand-Dad has been on this day as a soldier (from the now wrong side!) on the so called Omaha Beach. He survived and he told us children many stories from this memorable day and the days after. Mostly because he was to be awed by the giant armada of ships he could see in the morning fog.

She placed 3rd in her graduating class at Cornell University, where she received the famed doctorate in 1895. She was the 1st women to teach Physics at the California School of Mechanical Arts.

"The establishment of an independent state 28 years ago is the most glorious milestone of our national history", and it "makes us an equal part of the global architecture", said Pahor. "I don't think there is a national political manifesto more clear, more inspiring, more visionary and more brief than this one," he stressed.
"We must never forget that Slovenia was attacked after it declared independence, but successfully countered the attack in a war," Pahor said at the reception at the Presidential Palace.
Official statistics show that the ten-day independence war claimed the lives of 19 Slovenian soldiers and police officers, with another 182 Slovenians wounded.
