This latest post of photos by L.A.H. de Molard is just so interesting and beautiful. The average exposure time in the 1840's must have been many seconds and sometimes minutes, and that's the main reason why the figures in the picture sometimes seem a bit stiff and stilted - they had to do their best to keep absolutely still for (let's say) 40 seconds or otherwise the pic would be a big blur. I don't think people nowadays have any understanding at all about how much of an effort it was to make a good photo in the mid 19th century - today taking a photo is hardly any effort at all.

Jakob Tuggener - I've never heard of him before, but his work is really interesting and many of the pictures in your post reminds me of so many other great photos of their time (1930s-40s).
