The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 will be the 64th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. On 13 September 2018, the EBU announced Tel Aviv as the host city, with Expo Tel Aviv as the selected venue for the 2019 contest. The show will consist of two semi-finals on 14 and 16 May, and the final on 18 May 2019.

The 2019 contest will take place in Israel for the third time, after 1979 and 1999, following the country's victory at the 2018 edition with the song "Toy", performed by Netta Barzilai.

Forty-two countries will take part in the contest, with Bulgaria absent for the first time since 2015.

On 25 January 2019, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC/KAN) announced that four presenters will host the three shows: TV hosts Erez Tal and Assi Azar who work for the Israeli Channel 12, supermodel Bar Refaeli, and KAN host Lucy Ayoub, who was also the Israeli spokesperson at the 2018 contest. Tal and Refaeli will be the main hosts, while Azar and Ayoub would be hosting the green room.

United Kingdom: Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us

413ee0.jpg

The British public, via telephone and online vote, eventually got to decide who would succeed SuRie as the country's next Eurovision pride. They chose Michael Rice (born 1997) and his version of Bigger Than Us to represent the country in the Grand Final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, 18th of May in Tel Aviv.

Rice was already the hot favourite with the bookmakers to win the ticket to Tel Aviv. He won the first series of BBC One's singing competition All Together Now in 2018, and also appeared in the eleventh series of The X Factor in 2014.

Charlotte Runcie of The Daily Telegraph approved of the choice of song for the United Kingdom's Eurovision entry, praising Michael Rice's vocals and calling the track "a perfectly respectable Eurovision-friendly power ballad with a key change. Nothing special but, crucially, nothing embarrassing."

Spain: Miki - La Venda

m1k1few.jpg

The Spanish TV viewers decided who their representative for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv will be during their national selection Operación Triunfo. Ten songs competed to become the Spanish entry for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Miki Núñez (born 1996) won the competition with 34% of the votes and will perform the song 'La Venda' at the Grand Final on the 18th of May in Israel.

Miki Nuñez, is a singer/songwriter from Terrassa (Barcelona). He has taken guitar and piano lessons as well as studied a Degree in Administration and Management. Prior to entering the reality talent show ''Operación Triunfo'', Miki was a singer in the covers band Dalton Bang with whom he has toured most of his region, Catalonia.

"La venda" (English: The blindfold) is a song written by Adrià Salas, who is the lead vocalist of the Latin Grammy-nominated band La Pegatina. Judy Cantor-Navas of Billboard described "La venda" as a "rousing party anthem, the kind of popular Spanish song that typically animates both soccer stadiums and neighborhood festivals" and as a Eurovision entry that "will please the crowd" rather than "depend on the artist's vocal talent to wow the judges and audience voters".

Albania: Jonida Maliqi - Ktheju Tokës

Jo54664qi.jpg

Albania is, once again, the first country to present both artist and song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Jonida Maliqi won the Albanian national selection show Festivali i Këngës in December 2018 with the song Ktheju tokës (English: Return to the land), with music and lyrics by Eriona Rushiti.

Jonida Maliqi (born 1983) is an Albanian singer and television host. She is also known for portraying Juliet in the Albanian musical version of Romeo and Juliet. She hosted the fourth season of Dancing with the Stars Albania, and she also served as a judge on the fifth season of The Voice of Albania in 2016.

In an interview with Eurovision fansite Wiwibloggs, Maliqi revealed that the song was written "for Albanians, for immigrants, for all the people around the world". The lyrics deal with the topic of Albanian emigration, especially in relation to the Kosovo War.

Slovenia: Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl - Sebi

zalagasper28072018_fotor.800x0.jpg

It was showtime in Slovenia last night as our national selection final 'EMA' took place in capital Ljubljana. The duo Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl have been selected to represent the country in Tel Aviv in May with their song 'Sebi' (To Yourself).

Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl is a Slovenian musical duo from Maribor consisting of vocalist Zala Kralj (19) and multi-instrumentalist Gašper Šantl (22). They began their journey in the summer of 2017 when they recorded their first joint song "Valovi" (Waves). Before their collaboration, both them were already involved in music; Zala playing covers and wrote her own songs, Gašper played the guitar and was involved in music production.

The lyrics of the chorus: Vedno se ne vidi zvezd (The stars are not always visible), Sam ostani sebi zvest (Stay true to yourself), Ne govori mi oprosti (Don't tell me to forgive you)...

I know most of you will say:"Boring as hell!" Some of you will say the melody is stolen from David Bowie's song ''This is not America''. Haters will say:"It’s the same thing for three minutes..."

But there are also ESC fans who like it, like Lukas from W1wibloggs: "This song is a masterpiece! Out of this world… so mystical and yet so touching… just takes you to another galaxy. Such a relief among those generic songs. Good job, Slovenia!"

Totalyl agree with Lukas! Good choice imho and congrats!

Ukraine: MARUV – Siren song

MAetu532019.jpg

Ukraine's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Vidbir, a ''hot'' competition in Kyiv, where the final took place, finished on Saturday night. Much of the show’s fire came from a political war of words. But the public thought otherwise. They cast over 167,000 unique votes and MARUV with her 'Siren Song' earned the most.

MARUV is a singer, songwriter and sound producer. In 2016, she was a semi-finalist of the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision as part of The Pringlez band.

Ukrainian broadcaster UA:pBC provides MARUV as the winner of the national selection with an agreement for consideration, specifying the terms of participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. The official announcement of the representative of Ukraine at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will take place after signing the participation agreement.

After broadcaster UA:pBC was unable to come to an agreement with the top 3 from their national selection for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest; MARUV, Freedom Jazz and KAZKA, they have unfortunately decided to withdraw from the competition this year.
