Yes it is a remake. And at first I was very suspicious against this remake, because I know as well the original. But now I must say: for me it is better and
much more exciting than the original.
DAS BOOT from 1981 was a true implementing of the novel by Lothar-Günther Buchheim (which I have read as well). This new series is a mixture from both of his novels DAS BOOT and DIE FESTUNG. Or better, it is as often will be said: according to motives of both novels. ---- But this new series is worth watching and very recommended.
