'Merry Christmas' text message sells for $121,000 in auction

World's first-ever text message of SMS was 'Merry Christmas', sent on V0dafone network and received by V0dafone employee Richard Jarvis on 3 December 1992.



It was sold yesterday for 107,000 euros ($121,000) as a 'Non-Fungible Token' at a Paris auction house.

The bridge is multi-span extradosed cable-stayed bridge with an orthotropic steel deck. The width of the three-cell superstructure is 22.50 m. The pylon heights above the sea level differ from 75.4 m to 100 m. The bridge is founded deeply on driven steel piles of diameter 2.0 m, length from 55 m to 125 m. The central part of the bridge was constructed by balanced cantilever construction method and approach parts were constructed by incremental launching method. The average sea depth in bay is app. 27 m. Dimensions of navigation channel in central span are 250 m x 55 m.



One of the future symbols of modern Croatia (officially opened today) will connect the Croatian mainland with the Peljesac Peninsula, from Komarna to Brijesta. It is a long-awaited road link between the southernmost part of Croatia with the rest of the country on the Adriatic coastal Motorway between Split and Dubrovnik.

Fisherman lands whopping 67-pound goldfish



A UK fisherman became the envy of anglers everywhere after reeling in a nearly 70-pound monster goldfish — potentially the world’s largest.

Andy Hackett, 42, landed the behemoth, aptly nicknamed The Carrot, while fishing at Bluewater Lakes in Champagne, France.

Not a goldfish per se, the Fanta-colored freak of nature is actually a hybrid species of leather carp and koi carp, ornamental fish commonly found in ponds.

“‘It was brilliant to catch it but it was also sheer luck,” added Hackett who spent a whopping 25 minutes reeling the monster in.

He's gonna need a bigger aquarium.

He has lived his entire life with the Costa family in the rural village of Conqueiros, in Leiria, Portugal.

Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which is a breed of livestock guardian dog with an average life expectancy of 12-14 years.

The beginning of July has been the hottest week on record for the planet, according to early findings from the United Nations' weather agency, after a series of scorching days saw global temperature records tumble.

Temperatures are breaking records both on land and in the oceans, with "potentially devastating impacts on ecosystems and the environment", the World Meteorological Organization said.



It follows the hottest June on record, with unprecedented sea surface temperatures and record-low Antarctic sea ice extent.

New European hail record



Europe’s record for the largest hailstone has been broken again within a mere five days as a massive 19 cm (7.48 inches) hailstone was confirmed in Azzano Decimo, Italy, just 1.3 cm (0.52 inches) smaller than the world record. The previous record of 16cm in Carmignano di Brenta, Italy, from 19 July lasted for only five days.
