Brown bottle?

I was watching a porn video and the guys in it were passing a Brown bottle back and forth and smelling it. before sex and during what is it? some drug or something

They have been around a long time. Gay dance clubs back in the early 1970's used to put poppers in the ventilation system. I have seen people many years ago snort them all day long to get high and it did mess them up mentally. I know people that have used them just for sex for over 40 years with no problems at all. Back in my younger years they use to sell them at gas stations and convenience stores. I think it is was Nancy Reagan's war on drugs that made them illegal.

So far, I only saw it in Asian porn.
There will be some kind of upkeep.

Aaaand, that's why I got low marks in Chemistry...and often into trouble in real life. Amyl Nitrite, as you correctly (thank you) say, is probably one of many reasons my memory is crap now.

In the ventilation system? Those places should have been shut down and the owners fined or imprisoned. Choosing to inhale drugs is one thing, but pumping it into the air for everyone to inhale whether they wish to or not is akin to spiking someone's drink.

As for the stuff being illegal, I'm not sure of the situation here but I think people have to sell it and buy it as "leather cleaner" or something rather than calling it by name. The problem is that it works by dilating blood vessels, and that can be dangerous for people with certain heart conditions, or on certain medications, The image of amyl as a party drug has made many gay men think of it as casually as you would a bowl of jelly beans left on the table at a party for everyone, but in fact it can have serious side effects - probably only for a very small minority of users, but still it's not something that should be trifled with.

They would be now for sure and I agree with you. This was the late 60's and early seventies when things were very different. This was in the pre aids, pre computer, and pre cell phone times. Gay people were glad to have any kind of place to meet other Gay people. The biggest worry was not getting caught touching while dancing and making sure the sailors didn't get caught by the mps as the bar was real close to a big naval air station.
