SWITZERLAND: Rykka - The Last of Our Kind

r1ka.jpg

The Bodensee Arena in Kreuzlingen hosted the Swiss national selection for Stockholm, Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow. Six acts performed not only their competing entry but one more cover song to show their musical versatility and live performing abilities. In the end, Rykka won the show in a combined vote of the televoters and an expert jury. The decision was jointly taken by a 50/50 combination of televoting and the verdict of a 10-member expert jury. She will sing The Last Of Our Kind in Stockholm. Rykka (29) was born in Vancouver, Canada, where she grew up in a very musical family. Her real name is Christina Rieder and her forefathers are Swiss. In Canada Rykka went to a music school and, for a long time, toured the country as a street musician. Meanwhile she has also recorded a few albums. Right now the versatile artist lives in a farm house close to Zurich, Switzerland, together with her husband, five fellow housmates, cat Charlie and a flock of sheep.

GEORGIA: Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz - Midnight Gold

younggeorg.jpg

The TV viewers and an international expert jury have jointly decided: The Georgian entry in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest will be Midnight Gold! It will be sung by Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz, who had been internally selected to represent the country in Stockholm. Mainstream of avant-garde, that's how Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz characterize their own music, which will not leave even the most critical lovers of music indifferent. The Beatles, Nirvana, Beck, Radiohead, Vladimir Nabokov - all served as sources of inspiration for Young Georgian Lolitaz. The band passed through a years-long phase when their music was influenced and formed its own uncompromising style. Today Young Georgian Lolitaz is a brand on the Georgian stage.

douwebob.jpg

Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS announced today Douwe Bob will represent The Netherlands at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm with the song Slow Down. According to Douwe, the song is a call to slow down the pace of life and a response to today's performance-oriented society. Douwe Bob (23) was born and raised in an Amsterdam artists' family. In 2012 he was voted The Best Singer-Songwriter in the Netherlands. In 2013 he took the Dutch music scene by storm with his début album Born In A Storm and the hit Multicoloured Angels. In May 2015 Douwe released his second album, Pass It On, which reached number one in the Dutch album charts.

RUSSIA: Sergey Lazarev - You are the only one

tumblrnz6o.jpg

Sergey Lazarev, who was announced as Russia‘s act for Stockholm back in December, has finally unveiled his song for Eurovision. In a presentation by Russian broadcaster VGTRK, Sergey’s song was revealed to be “You Are The Only One”. The song was produced by Eurovision veteran Philipp Kirkorov who assembled a dream team of music professionals to work on Sergey’s entry, including songwriter Dimitris Kontopoulos and choreographer Fokas Evangelinos. The music video features Sergey and Miss Russia 2015 Vladislava Evtushenko. A lot of money has been put into that, y’all!

MONTENEGRO: Highway - The Real Thing

highway163.jpg

In last night's special TV broadcast live from Bečići, the Montenegrin pop-rock band Highway has introduced its entry The Real Thing for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. For the first time, Montenegro's public broadcaster RTCG aired the official video for the song composed and written by Skansi, Luka Vojvodić and Maro Market. Highway consists of a lead singer Petar Tošić, guitarists and back-up singers Marko Pešić and Luka Vojvodić, and keyboardist Bojan Jovović. Skansi, who wrote the song for the band Highway believes that the guys are “quite brave” for going to Sweden with this kind of song. “It’s not going to be easy, but I think they deserve our support.”

Bosnian entry was already posted but did you know that the guy from the duet (Deen, who didn't age very well and did some plastic job which makes him look even older) already represented Bosnia in 2004. Here is his performance. Have you ever seen anything gayer

Have you ever seen anything gayer

ROMANIA: Ovidiu Anton - Moment of silence

04ovidiuan.jpg

Romanian rocker Ovidiu Anton has defeated five other competing acts in the final of this year's Romanian national selection and will represent the country in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm with the song Moment Of Silence. This was his fifth attempt to win Selecţia Naţionala and this time he succeeded. In comparing to the national selections in previous years, the winner of 2016 Selecţia Naţionala was chosen through public televoting only. Whilst Romania is yet to score a victory in the Eurovision Song Contest, it has qualified to every single Grand Final since the current Semi-Final system was introduced more than 10 years ago.

SAN MARINO: Serhat - I Didn't Know

serhat.jpg

Serhat, the singer who will represent San Marino in this year's contest has premiered the song I Didn't Know at a press conference held yesterday at the Grand Hotel Intercontinental in Paris. The Sammarinese entry appears likely to be the most multinational participant of this year's contest. Serhat fully represents the new Europe: Turkish born with a German education in his home city Istanbul; he has much experience in Germany, Greece and France, and to represent San Marino is another of his artistic career challenges.
