Gay Street, Through the Years

Gay Street is the main downtown thoroughfare in Knoxville, Tennessee (my adopted "hometown"). Some scenes through the years from various vantage points.

April 27, 1861
Note the two flags. Recruiting soldiers for Union and Confederate armies on Gay Street.
The US Flag is at the corner of Gay Street & Main, near the Third Courthouse.
The Confederate flag is a block north at the corner of Gay Street & Cumberland Avenue.
General Ambrose Burnside recaptured the city in September 1863.
