I have been trying to plug in a multi hub USB to my LG smart TV.I have tried a 2.0 and then a 3.0 but neither works.A smaller 3 point hub works but not a 10 port. What is the difference of 2.0 and 3.0? and any idea's on how I can get a connection via my TV USB port.I would welcome any idea's.

If a smaller hub works, and a bigger ones doesn't, my suspicion is drawn to power.

Is the big hub powered or un-powered? I.e. do you plug it into the power outlet?

If not, then the USB port in the TV may not be strong enough to power that many ports.

USB 3 is a faster better version of USB than USB2 (which is a faster and better version of USB than USB 1).

In THEORY, USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB 2, is backwards compatible with USB 1. In reality, USB 3 is unreliable on old USB 1 & 2 ports. If your TV has a USB 1 or 2 port, and you are trying to use USB 3 devices, you might get problems.

Hope that helps,

B.

Thanks gb2000ie,
Yes both are powered and I have USB 2 and 3 ports.I am connecting 3TB hard drives to the USB which work fine when connected direct but not with these bigger hubs. Not that I am connecting up more than one at a time. Thanks for your imput.

Could it be because of the bigger USB hub's quality? Perhaps because of the lesser quality, the signal transmitted isn't strong enough? (Please note that I don't know/presume to know much about electrical wiring and such, it is merely a guess)

Or maybe it is because of the compatibility mentioned by gb2000ie.
The USB hub with 3 plugs, is that USB 2.0 or 3.0? What about the USB hub with 10 plugs, is that USB 2.0 or 3.0?
Maybe the Hub with 3 plugs work because it is USB 2.0 but Hub with 10 plugs work because it is USB 3.0: nothing to do with number of plugs, but USB standard. I'm just speculating until more information is available

But since you're just using one at a time, the hub isn't required, is it? :thumbs up:
