dunkirkpremiere.jpg

Dunkirk opens in Germany this coming weekend.
Christopher Nolan created it for Imax and filmed it for Imax. So see it in imax if at all possible.

Stonecold you are really the very, very best. And Imax is possible here in Berlin too. So I will have a look. Thank you for your tip from the far away America what I can do here in Berlin/Germany! :p p:p

It must be an odd feeling for Germans watching WWII movies and hoping their side looses...

It must be an odd feeling for Germans watching WWII movies and hoping their side looses...

Hi Brmstn69 I'm a real history fan. I'm reading every history book about World War I and World War II from every side. There are German movies which are mostly deal with the concentration camps or with the battle of Stalingrad. And there are English or American movies as very good historical movies and as very bad ones. In the bad ones you can see German soldiersy in Uniforms which never existed or with weapons they didn't have had to that time. And that is crap. As well you can see very often war movies where the Germans exists only as blond-haired, blue-eyed, brutal reprobated and bloodthirsty beings with the SS-runes on their gorget patches. In two words: worthless devils.

In the last time something has changed a little bit in this picture. But one thing also is true: German soldiers have been as well very brave as soldiers from all armies of the world. And so dumb they couldn't have been - otherwise the war wouldn't have lasted for 6 years.

:rofl: And perhaps I hope that eventually there will be a World War II movie where my side wins!:rofl: Let me dream ............... :p

But always the best is, to watch a war in movies than in real. To see human tragedies (as in HACKSAW RIDGE) and to hope that such tragedies never again will happen to us. But my opinion is, that not the people in Turkey, Russia, America, Germany or Japan or wherever are dangerous - but some leaders in their feelings of omnipotence - like at that time the ineffable A. Hitler!

It's been a while since I first watched this, and I'm glad I got around to another screening - A powerful story, powerfully told with powerful performances!

If you missed it get a copy!

DUNKIRK on the big screen. One of those films you'll never forget. And what was great with this film was the lack of pathos. Nearly a documentary style.

Okay so I was tired (having already fallen asleep in the chair I knew that a Coen Bros classic would not work) so wanted something that wouldn't matter if I nodded off by the 3rd act (or 4th glass of Australian Shiraz!) and this fitted the bill - entertaining escapism but no real need to engage the brain - perfect for my needs, and the added bonus of a cutie or 2 amongst the cast;)

Marina (2013)

bge5vop6sw.jpg

This movie was based on the life of an Italy born Belgian singer Rocco Granata. Romance, drama, music, sentiments, everything is there in the movie. I was surprised how good this movie was. It is a really great biographical movie with the beautiful photography, and excellent acting. Well worth watching.

Did you know...? The song "Marina" by Rocco Granata sold more than 5 million copies worldwide and became one of the most covered songs in history.
