Betty Bowers Explains Traditional Marriage to Everyone Else

America's Best Christian takes time to explain to less informed Christians the curious details of the Lord's concept of marriage.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If you've never watched this you should take the time (4:14) now to take it in. It pretty much covers all the bases.

The religious right should be forced to watch it... not that they would get it but still they should be forced to watch it... some of them might learn a thing or two.

I saw this posted on another forum and thought I'd post it here too.

The idea that The catholic church - or any other church - should have the right to define what marriage should be and how it should be applied didn't occur to anyone until the late 11th century, and the context was the Gregorian or Papalist movement.

Marriage was about important things - i.e. economic & political power - and in the Gregorian/Papalist movement, the bishops and popes began see themselves as divine - powerbrokers. And since power in feudal society was intimately connected to economicopolitical power in the form of land & landowners, to take control of the institution of marriage became what it never had been before - a central interest of the church as an institution with enormous power.

Because what was medieval marriage? Essentially, the institution that could grant a family the right to become a legitimate landowner with the right to transport estates through time = to INHERIT from generation to generation.

Marriage "in the [medieval] beginning" got very little to do with amorous feelings and fucking. But don't tell me that church history is a boring and uninteresting subject.
