I had the privilege of seeing AC/DC perform live a few times over the years & they always put on a great show. RIP Malcom

Led his cult family in a series of grisly murders in the summer of 1969 around Los Angeles in the hopes of starting a race war that would bring about the end of the world.

Mother Flawless Sabrina, a drag icon and LGBTI rights trailblazer, passed away on Friday 17 November at age 78.


Flawless was born in Philadelphia in 1939 as Jack Doroshow. The legend first tried on women’s clothes at age 8. By age 19, the Mother Flawless Sabrina character was perfected.

Despite drag being stigmatized in the 1960s, even in the gay community, Mother Flawless Sabrina organized drag pageants across the United States. It was at these events that many iconic performers, such as Divine, donned drag for the first time.

Crossdressing was illegal in those days, and Doroshow was arrested numerous times for dressing in drag.

‘We would take hotels, usually in the black section of town, and rent out the ballrooms,’ Doroshow told Out Magazine in 2015. ‘We would hang sheets as a canopy outside so people could get in and out of the building without being seen, even though they were in suits and ties when they came in.’

In 1967, upon promoting the semi-doentary film The Queen in Times Square, Doroshow was also arrested.
The Queen was the first movie about drag. Focusing on the Miss All America Beauty Pageant, Mother Flawless Sabrina played the mother of the contestants, including Crystal LaBeija. The film came to be with the help of Andy Warhol, and was shown at the Cannes film festival.

Later on in life, Doroshow became an activist for gay and trans people, homeless youth, and those living with HIV or AIDS.

He starred in the TV show The Partridge Family and made young girls and boys swoon over his puka shells and shag haircut. He was the biggest selling recording artist and international concert attraction from 1971 to 1974. He was the son of TV and stage star Jack Cassidy and the step son of Shirley Jones and half brother to Shawn and Patrick Cassidy.

He became popular on The Andy Griffith Show as Gomer Pyle, and was then spun off into his own series as a US Marine recruit - Gomer Pyle, USMC. He also had a beautiful singing voice and was a frequent guest on variety shows. He is survived by his partner of 43 years, Stan Cadwallader, who he married in 2013.

RIP Jim Nabors

Jim Nabors also released 28 albums and numerous singles, including six albums that went gold or platinum. For more than 40 years, until 2014, Nabors sang the unofficial Indiana anthem, Back Home Again in Indiana, prior to the start of the Indianapolis 500. With few absences due to health, Nabors sang the song from 1972 to 2014.

The show finished outside the top three only once in its five-year run, when it slipped to No. 10 in the Nielsen ratings in 1967. Yet it bounced back strong, gaining some of its best ratings in its final season. In fact, Gomer Pyle was the second most-watched show in television when it shut down. We have all five seasons on DVD and have binge watched them several times. We also play some of his holiday music every year. Our heart goes out to Stan Cadwallader.

Accolades and honors

Nabors' successes have earned him accolades.

He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991.[58]
"Gomer Pyle" received an honorary promotion to Lance Corporal from the Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones in 2001, and on September 25, 2007, he was promoted from Lance Corporal to Corporal by Lt. General John F. Goodman.
The Hawaii Pacific University awarded Nabors the Fellow of the Pacific Award for his "outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to the community".
He was inducted into the Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame in 2006
He received honors from the University of Alabama on September 2, 2006, before a football game against the University of Hawaii.
Nabors, along with U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, was honored on January 19, 2007, at "A Night of American Heroes", a yearly dinner held in benefit of the Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
U.S. Highway 280 in Talladega County, Alabama was named "Jim Nabors Highway" in honor of the Sylacauga native.
Jim Nabors was made an honorary Sergeant during the 238th Marine Corps birthday ball celebration by Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos.
The thing I am thankful for is he died at home with his husband at his side.
