It's cold outside. You've binge-watched your favorite TV shows. So now you just want to relax with a nice cup of tea and listen to some chill tracks. What would be on winter playlist? Holiday tunes? Kate Bush? That Coldplay track you hadn't heard in a while? What?

Hmm...so hard to decide...there are so many good tunes out over the years and by so many various artists, but my favorite winter/festive/Xmas song of all time is ''Fairytale Of New York'' by The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacCol...it makes you realise that there are two sides to Christmas, not everything is sweetness and joy. ;)

I've always loved this song. It's buried in an old Michael J. Fox movie, Life With Mikey and by Broadway/Disney composers Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken. The song was cut, but still made it to the soundtrack album.

What could be better than a warm fire and two boys singing "Baby It's Cold Outside"?

One of the classic Christmas specials is the December episode of The Judy Garland Show in 1963. Only a few weeks earlier the President had been shot and the country was still reeling. Rather than just bring guests into the studio like they did every week for her variety show, Judy and the producers decided to reproduce her living room as a set in the studio and do the whole show as if it were an informal house party with Judy's family and and friends.

The result was a an hour that felt truly intimate and still festive. In this sequence Mel Torme arrives with carolers. Mel was, as Judy explains, the music supervisor on her weekly show, but also the composer of the well-known song they do together. Their chemistry and familiarity is evident - especially when he calls her out for flubbing one of his lyrics ("Well, that's close!").
