It does sound like a translation error; note that in the actual quote, he doesn't say "gay" at all. The new Bolivian constitution did include a clause banning all discrimination on the basis of sexuality, and Venezuela has gone much farther, legislating gay marriage. The western media dislikes them because of their anti-imperialist/colonialist policies.

The female growth hormones and other chemicals pumped into livestock animals is a real issue, btw; though it has nothing to do with the arbitrary cultural archetypes of "masculinity" it does make girls hit puberty at a younger age, etc. The recent People's Summit on Climate Change, held in Bolivia, certainly would have addressed organic farming, which is the wider context of Evo Morales remarks. That the mainstream media couldn't cover the mass civil society organizations that met there to discuss people-centered alternatives to the US-dominated UN process, but wish to poke fun at it instead is shameful.

What makes people gay is simply an exclusive attraction to the same sex. There's nothing else to it.

But he didn't say that. He said if you eat chicken, you become more feminine.

The whole point of being gay is that you like men - not women (or men who looks like women). I guess only str8 guys could like men who look like women.

So if Argentinian gay activists think that being gay is equal to looking feminine, then I just have to support Morales concern for preserving manhood of men
