Advocate.com Reporter Julie Blocer reported that "McDonald's has released a new campaign ad in France designed to let gay customers know they are welcome at the restaurants".

The ad, called "Come As You Are," features a young man and his father, who does not know his son is gay.

Watch the video, which has been attracting attention worldwide on the Web.

Yes Integritas,
but this is the way ads work today - there is a tendency that commercials get more and more "cool" or "funny" to shape a brand image. And still I have to admit that I kinda like this spot, and I haven't bought anything at McDonalds for years. But I like the reaction of the boy when that father tells him he could have had all the girls in his class. If you're not openly gay, there are a number of situations where people try to "help" you with suggestions or wonder why you live alone...

I am not sure what your point is, Integritas. Of course, McD is a large corporation only interested in profits. But this is precisely what makes the ad culturally significant. Brands like McD are inherently conservative (they don't want to frighten the masses). The fact that they can have such a theme for an ad campaign says something about the state of mainstream opinion in France.

Oh, I saw this ad a while ago on ONTD.

I enjoyed it, most of the girls I know who have seen it thought it was cute. Although, I've heard from a few gay guys that it sends the wrong message to teens about staying in the closet. Then again, I guess if you take advice from a McDonald's commercial you have bigger problems than closet status...

I think it's a funny ad and to a degree kinda weird and creepy in how people move throughout the shoot.

I like it but religious rubes in the US would burn their local McDonalds to the ground if an ad like this played in the US...

VIVE la FRANCE!!!:)

I find it kind of cute, but I'm wondering what it has to do with McDonalds...

It takes place in McDonalds so you can see that McDonalds is a great place to eat and talk to your lover on the phone while you wait for your food.

I don't see how this is "gay friendly" when the boy is hiding his sexuality from his father and the only mention of it is a phonecall to an offscreen character...

Because it shows that even if your family is not o.k. with you being gay; they accept you and your sexuality.

Yeah, the young man is cute and I think the ad is quite convincing. Maybe McDonalds is really trying to improve its image
