The Channel Island of Jersey has at last made a long overdue reform of it's tax treatment of couples.
Previously, it was the man in a conventional marriage who was responsible for the couple's tax affairs, for tax purposes the wife's earnings belonged the husband.
This had a strange effect on same sex couples. For two men together the law regarded the older man as the man and the younger man as a woman, and for a lesbian couple the younger woman remained a woman while the older half became in effect a man.
It has taken this long for them to realise that the World has moved on since Biblical times, now men and women are equal in the eyes of the taxman.
