Chat-Room??????

Hi - this will be a question to the whole community here!?

What do you think about the opening of a chat-room here on GAYHEAVEN? Members, friends could chat here in real time. What will be your opinion or what will say the makers of GAYHEAVEN?

I would be very interested about your view to this suggestion. p

I think you should talk to experienced members of the staff, people who know and understand the technical and economical possibilities and who knows what the owner would think.
It's important to realize, that our beloved GH-community doesn't OWN the forum. And as most grown up people know, sometimes it won't be democracy that talks, but money.
But other than that, I'm neither for nor against your proposition. I think I'm neutral.

I'll understand what you mean gorgik9 and I don't wan't to make a revolution here -.
It was only a question - and perhaps - who knows - too here we will have such a communication. I for myself would find it very interesting to have a chat with guys from all aound the globe - and where you can find them more than here?! So .................

I wouldn't mind it... But I've never been on one, how does it work? Is it one where everyone who logs in are able to say anything, all in one 24/7 chat session?

@theseeker - I have seen chat-rooms where you can sign in and you can choose or deny a chatpartner and you can have the possibility to nice talks with other guys and perhaps you have too the chance to find new friends or you can discuss in real time problems you have. My question was an attempt - you know a little snowball can change into an avalanche! I have not a hunch how to make it technically but surely there will be someone who knows.
And I think GAYHEAVEN could be a good stage because all here I think are gay and have the same problems or things they want to talk anonymous. So ..........................

Exactly. I started thinking about the monitoring and moderation question a couple of hours ago.

I don't know the technical procedure. But what is 24/7 - is that really bad or too expensive or what?

It means all the time : 24 hrs a day / 7 days a week

Other forums have chatrooms or at least a shoutbox and don't have 24/7 moderation. How do they do that I wonder?

Thank you for explaining the term! But that's what I think over. And you must have the possibility to chat with only one person. You have to click onto a name in the register, that will open a window and you can chat with this person without anyone other can see what you are talking.

Hi ihno - yes you are totally right. Here in Germany there is a chatroom forum called
EROTIKCHAT4FREE.DE - there you can chat the whole day if you will have the time -

But I think it would be great here too because here everyone has the same feelings or needs.

I have a really simple answer for you guys .... No. There will not be a shoutbox or a chat room. SlimJim has a point about monitoring it and moderating it but that is not the final reason. The final reason is that the servers we work out of simply will not support it.

After the harsh NO from mark__63 I'll lay my suggestion to rest! It's buried! OK - but it is too bad because here guys from so many nations are together. In northern Germany they say in such a situation: wat mut dat mut! (what shall be shall be!) OK out and over! -

No. You don't have to have 24/7 monitoring. That's simply not true.

This "everything has to be monitored 24/7" is NSA-thinking. The threads in this forum and other forums aren't monitored "24/7" too. There is a report button for that. And PMs aren't monitored too, therefore they have a report button too. Some snoopy admins in other forums might read the PMs, not here luckily.

I've been moderator in two forums with a shoutbox. Still am moderator in one. So I know quite well who much effort a shoutbox makes for the moderators.

Normally there are three to five shouts a day, not more. And it's always the same ten to 15 people using it.

So you check that like you check other things too. Reading five lines of text is not a big issue.

I know that it's technically impossible here so I'm not arguing pro shoutbox.
