Sadly this is how 48% of us feel today, a really bad day that is going to live with us for a long, long time.

The whole thing is made even sadder as there is a real likelihood of the Union falling apart.

The Scottish PM has already said that Scotland has no intention of following England out of the EU. (Every constituency in Scotland voted to remain.)

Sinn Fein is calling for a vote on the unification of Ireland. (Northern Ireland also voted to remain.)

I bet there are a lot of Londoners that wish there was some political way for them to divorce themselves from the provinces keep the City as the EU's financial capital.

very interesting - the old-agers votes were crucical fo the leave, well - they will leave this planet soon - while the youngsters will have to pay for this for decades.

This is very useful information on it's own. Now add to it the fact that the older the voters are, the more of their news and opinions they get from newspapers. The younger voters read fewer papers and rely more on online sources. Then look at notorious jingoism of many of the papers, especialy the ones most popular with mature readers. Finaly add that the older voters always turn out to vote on the day while the younger ones might intend to but find something more urgent on the day.
Mix all this together and I hope you can see how the blatant bias of the popular press can have a suprisingly large influence on a British election result.

Bye byeEngland Now lets have the next referenda, both Scotland and occupied Northern Ireland have voted to stay in the EU so it is more then fair there should get a referendum to see if they want to stay with England (and loose all EU priviliges) or not... Same goes for the colony of Gibraltar, they voted to stay in the EU so best give that rock back to Spain before the Spanish will close the border to protect the EU borders...

Others should follow. I don't like THIS EU at all ! Maybe, in the far future, we have a chance to create a new EU - a better one without corruption !

The EU in 2045: Romania has voted to leave the European Union. There are still 6 countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro) in the EU and 1 more (Kosovo) may join in the next 10 years. That's how I see the future of European Union...

The old Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times" has been rattling around in my brain all week.

Things are about to get "intersting" for the UK as Scotland looks almost certain to leave the UK so they can remain in the EU.

Things just got very 'interesting' for the Republic of Ireland - 37% of Irish exports are to the UK. In the short-term the collapse of Sterling is hitting Irish businesses hard, but that's nothing to the prospect of tarrifs on Irish goods being sold into the UK!

But all that pales in comparison to how "intesting" things are about to get in Northern Ireland. There has been relatice peace for the last two decades, but, the underlying tensions are not gone. The fact that the border between the north and the republic has been an open border since the Good Friday agreement has meant that while the island remains politically partitioned, it has not been practically partitioned. Free travel and free trade between all parts of the island have helped keep things on an even kiel.

The UK's only land-border is about to become the UK's only land border with the EU. I can't see how that can remain an open border now. The thought of the return of border checkpoints is horrifying. It will ratchet tensions right up. It will take some heroic work by the British and Irish governments to avoid a slide back into chaos and violence. They may succeed, but one thing is for sure, things are about to get very 'intersting' on this little island.

The pros and the cons

Asking to european people if they are pros or cons Europe, it is like asking them if they are pros or cons the war because nationalism is war. Do not forget what happened in Yougoslavia 25 years ago and what happens today in Ukraine. It would be better to ask ourself if we are pros or cons federal Europe because Europe of the nations has totally failed.

Mr. Cameron obviously has a lot of time suddenly and snailed down a bit. Now he wants to remain in office till October... October 2016 I guess but you can never know. 2017 perhaps?

And afterwards they might bring the "we're out" papers to Brussels. Before that nothing can happen.

The primeminister of that island thinks that countries of the European Union have to wait till they have found a new leader. Since I have manners I will not comment that but I fully support a Zero lenience policy.

Out is out. The island people have made a decision and it's not simple desired, it's expected they act on it as soon as possible.

According to the article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon Brexit could be negotiated in two years or even more...

The way I have understood it:

Cameron brings in the papers = day 1
The negotations are supposed to take 2 years.

The EU and the island can add some time if they want but if there are no negotations the membership will end automatically after those two years.

But if the chief doesn't bring the papers the two years will never begin. They can simply remain member if they want to.

Now even this Boris Johnson has said "there is no hurry".

Out is out. Cameron can bring the papers on Monday if it is not too much to ask.

This limbo is toxic for everyone involved. Inward investment is likely to slow down a lot, as compnanies put their British and European plans on hold until some clarity develops over how this will all play out. Sitting on the referendum result into October is bad for the UK, and bad for Europe.
