Because I am capable of reasoning and communicating (vocally or nonverbally, emotionally, and so forth). I'm also capable at resolving issues, and unlike most non-humans who live by instinct, I have the capacity to overcome my own animal instincts by introspection and decision making.

it really depends on one's definition of humanity---what does it mean to be human? Some philosophers would argue we are animals--human animals. Different people often have different beliefs of what it is to be human--despite what society dictates. Ergo, the answer would always be in relation to how people define humanity. This is shown in answers above. Perhaps a more accurate question is---what does it mean to be human to you?
As to the question, i don't know if I should consider myself as intelligent--i'd merely be deluding myself. I am not much more than an animal, i reason, i think and I act.
