When I bought my current home, it came with a hardwired, central smoke alarm system -- which is not monitored. If one goes off, then they all go off. A low battery backup in one; they all go off. Total count for these is: 6 units throughout house.
The previous owners had installed an additional smoke alarm. I guess because -- you know, shit happens? Stand in front of your range, just where and how you'd stand if you were minding pots and pans. We'll wait -- everyone try it. Okay, look directly up. That spot right there was the secondary smoke detector.
The first day or two, made hot water for tea or coffee. The heat, and water steam, were enough to set secondary system to screeching. The frequency, caused the main system to activate. Like RazzmaTazz: popcorn, toast, microwave oatmeal, the dishwasher hitting the rinse cycle, open the oven. (Disclaimer: I am a Certified Safe Food Server.)
By the end of the first week, that stupid thing was down and gone. The irony is that the oven looked like they'd made S'mores in there -- campfire style -- for years!
I had another place that would happen when the hall bathroom door opened after someone's taking a shower. All of these -- and RazzmaTazz -- suffer from poor design since all are too close to legitimate sources of heat/vapor, resulting from too many false positive alarms. Your house cries wolf one time too many, and... .
Razz, see if the maintenance can move it to a more suitable location. You might want to see if your city has a building code online; it can provide specifications. It sounds like you might also be using Perfect Portions chicken or something like; there are some brands around that say "freezer to oven", but I've honestly not liked the result. If you have a colder-than-normal freezer, that could cause some smoking ... and the Pam(R). Hint: Topdog has an excellent post on here. ;-)
