Apple iPod, RIP

Today the last Apple iPod was officially discontinued.

The iPod was released in 2001 and revolutionized music. Like the Sony Walkman before it, the iPod made digital music portable and personal.

The Classic, Shuffle, Mini and Nano were dropped years ago. The last model, the Touch, was pulled from Apple's product site today.

Did you have an iPod? Which one? What was on it? Where are those files now?

I never popped for an ipod etc I guess I never needed to shut out the world or had to keep my music quiet but when I do want to listen privately I prefer over-the-ear headphones.

I still don't like in-ear devices. I want to hear what the world has to say. Plus we could never use phones or headphones at work or school. I still don't understand why it's okay now, lol.

As you aluded to they went the way of all devices, the trash heap of history and "progress" marches on ...

I never had an Ipod. One year my mom got me a ipod knock off. It was the closest thing I had to one.

Music streaming and the widespread availability of mobile internet has made purchasing lossy 16bit files to own and store on a costly piece of hardware obsolete. I was not a fan of the file formats iPod played, certainly wouldn't purchase a device to buy and store music on one. Nothing wrong if you do, it just isn't for me.
