That's silly, none of the cards are the same in the second set as in the first...

Of course - there is always a trick to a trick!

In this case, the point being made is that our minds focus WAY more on colour and number than symbol. By focusing on one card our mind is not paying much attention to the others, and all we register is their colour and their number, not their suit.

It's a great way of illustrating how easily our mind can be fooled.

lol nice. But this isn't really a trick right? I mean can't they just change the set of cards to whatever they want. lol

I was confused for a second, then rewinded and it all made sense :p
 
That's dumb. It made no sense at all to me until I read the above comments. I did not think my card disappeared at all, because there was a card in the second set with the same digit and same suit as my chosen card. How many actually bother to count the pips?
