'not the nicest part of town"
Years ago I worked at a liquor store in what might be described as "not the nicest part of town". One of my co-workers had a wolf-dog hybrid just like this and it was well known to all the regular customers and quickly realized by new comers that you NEVER reached across the counter. Then one day a police officer stopped in, as they did regularly to check up on us (they were good about watching out for us) when the officer noticed a six pack of beer was left out of the cooler and absent mindedely tried to put it behind the counter. 38 stitches later and wolfey was banned from the store. The cop was amazingly nice about it and took the blame for everything, saying he didn't fault the dog for doing it's job protecting her and that he should have known better. But the owner wasn't having any of it. Mind you the owners daughter had a retired police K-9 she brought to work with her everyday and he always had a pit bull with him. Not to mention the trigger happy son of a bitch had already shot over a dozen people himself, yet he was worried the wolf-dog would be an insurance liability. A funny side note to the owners pit bull, it hated him. He never kept it on a leash and when ever he would come by my store, the dog would jump out of his truck and take off. He'd just say "she'll come back when she's ready" and leave. As soon as he was gone, she'd run in and jump over the counter and stay with me until he came back to lock up at closing time.
P.S. If that thing really wanted to get at something or someone, there would be no chance of the boy holding his leash stopping it. It could easily dislocate that scrawny kids shoulder if it decided to take off...
