I think in this case it's more annoyance than hate though, by the sound of it.

For a start he should be more considerate and smoke outside! I think it'd be perfectly reasonable to ask him, if he refuses then you'll know what kind of person he really is!

I don't know your cirstances but - first of all are you stuck with him...you say "it took so long to find somone"..did you choose him or was he chosen for you by college authorities or similar? if so can you go back to them and request a change of roommate?..or can you request a room change? If none of these apply the you will have to talk to each other about the differences between you and how sharing is gonna have to be a compomise on both sides..you never know ..when you tell him you don't like him smoking he may be very reasonable about it.. but you will never sort it out if you don't talk about it.
