Still not sure though which was the child of prophecy, but there's a part of me that thinks it wasn't really the one with the scar.

I dunno mate - I don't see any wiggle room - the prophecy says Voldemort will 'mark [the chosen on]e as his equal', and he most certainly marked Harry. The prophesy clearly says that Voldemort will anoint the one who would be his vanquisher, and he did by choosing to consider Harry the bigger thread and trying to kill him.

I love Neville, and particularly his growth throughout the series. I have no doubt that had Voldemort chosen him instead of Harry, he too could have fulfilled Harry's role, but that wasn't to be his lot. It was so wonderful to see Neville develop into a leader at the end of the last book, and to see him directly stand up to Voldemort. We should have always guessed that would happen from book 1 when he had the courage to stand up to the trio.

Oh - and I completely agree with you about the "you bitch" line - It was so great to see Molly get one over on Bellatrix, such a great way for the character to end the series. It also shows us where Ginny gets her strong will from.

I love all the Harry Potter movies and books so much, my favorite book is The Prisoner of Azkaban and I just cannot wait and see the final part 2 of the latest Harry Potter movie

Epic fan of the series- aside from regular US editions, I have a complete set of the books in the "Queen's English" (a mix of Canadian/British copies), a set in Spanish, a few in French, and at least one of the books in about 8 other languages, though I only read the English and Spanish. The rest are more a collecting thing.

I enjoy the books and the movies, each for their own merits. I enjoy some of the fanfic out there -- some can be horrible, others quite well done...not sure which camp mine falls into. *hangs head* Yes, I've written some.

I love fanfics, even more than the actual books because they are pretty predictable, very black and white and well, there's no sex (a slasher trough and trough) Some it is really really horrible, I agree... and some so good that they need to be read over and over again. My favourite pairings are HP/DM or HP/SS. About writing... I know the feeling x_x

I got a lot of them via eBay, though a few I found through Amazon's 3rd party vendors. In 6-9 months of fairly regular, close watch, I think I've seen a Finnish copy of one book. A couple Japanese copies are available, but they tend to be somewhat steep for me($40-$50 for one volume). Aside from the thrill of the hunt, I've got to stick within budgetary limits.

There tend to be several Spanish, French, and German copies on eBay; I periodically see some complete sets in Russian or Ukrainian (the latter has some really great cover art, among the best in my opinion).

And I second that- it's never enough books!

I read the books and loved them but have not yet watched the movies.

There is Harry Potter season on TV starting Saturday so will catch them then.
I will then catch the last movie when it comes out on blu ray.

I tend to stay away from Amazon and Ebay because the mailing costs and other complications but at least Potter books are readily available here in several languages. It's just the budget that's limiting... Second hand stores are great though, and friends are willing to help

Don't think I've seen the Ukranian cover art. Some of the others yes... also different copies for kids and adults. There's some really horrid art too, like in the Finnish books -_-

(On a side note, I'd love to get my hands on the Hungarian edition of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchet just for the cover art )

I've read them all more than once. And I have now seen the final movie... EPIC!

I went and watched the last movie on Thursday (two days ago as of this post) saw it on the Imax screen in 3D.

All I can say is it was awesome. The battle scene at Hogwarts was amazing. Helena Bonham-Carter was fantastic in the scene in Gringotts playing Hermione pretending to be Bellatrix, so funny.

I have also read all the books and while I miss some of the elements of the books I make allowances for the medium. Also some of the pure awesomeness of the movies didn't happen in the books. From the third movie on I've just enjoyed the movies as a separate ride from the books and tried to avoid actively comparing them.

I second (or third or whatever) the recommendation for the Audio Book versions both Stephen Fry and Jim Daley did a great job.

Have all the books and all the movies, in my family including my children we're all fan... and it's a big competition to know who'd get the latest book faster than others. So far my mom won:rofl:

It folowed the book? The entire series was a lead up to Harry's transformation from boy to man, and his epic showdown with voldemort in the great hall. In that encounter Harry is totally in command and even explains to Voldemort how he could save himself. Vitally, all Harry does is use the disarming spell. Harry does NOT kill voldie, he kills himself, AGAIN, because that's the core message of the book, evil is self distructive, and love wins out.

How did it end in the movies? Harry is still moody teen, and him and voldie have a blazing duel that Harry wins with magical might. This is an AWFUL adaptation of the book, seeing as it completely misses the point of the whole series. It's a purely superficial parody of the story, VERY pretty, but utterly without substance.

Think back to the third movie, that's how you do it right, every bit as beautiful as the other movies, but it is true to the vital core of the plot, and to the characters and emotions. It strays from the book a lot, but not on the core vital plot.

These last 2 films remind me so much of film six. A book about three vital characters, voldemort, snape, and Dumbledore, becomes a silly romcom which Is occasionally interrupted by the odd bit of plot.

Superficially the last few films are wonderful, but as adaptations of the books, they are pathetic, neither true to core ideas and themes, nor characters. The representation of the world is wonderful, but that's it really.
