The internet is a strange and wondrous place,
you're surfing along looking at all the usual stuff
and then suddenly, you come across something
totally unexpected like Queer Music Heritage

Who knew this stuff existed??? And there's
so damned much of it!

But just a warning, it took me forever to figure
out how to listen to the audio streams. Once you
pick a show, up at the top right are a bunch of
buttons to "click to listen." Sounds obvious, but
when you're on the site there's so much stuff on
each page, the buttons sort of get lost.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think.

This is the voice that launched a thousand drag queens. Proof that you don't need to be a great singer to be a great diva.
When she was a star, the sell out audience would be full of gay men, this was back when they still imprisoned us just for being queer.
To go to a Dorothy Squires concert was to almost come out.

Playing piano is Russ Conway, the British Liberace. He was terrified of being outed, there was no need, the fans all knew already.
Shirley Bassey made this syle of over the top singing mainstream, she had a big gay fanbase too, but Dorothy did it first.
