Not Bruce Springsteen
The new record from The Boss is a cover of the rare northern soul masterpiece originaly by Frank Wilson.
Bruce does a good job on the vocal and they get a particularly gorgeous sound from the bass saxophone but the cover is let down by the drummer.
The drum sound is so wrong, it drags the beat instead of leading it, ruining it for dancers. This is how the song is meant to sound. Still, I am glad that he did choose this song, so that more people will learn about northern soul, a most overlooked genre. If you want to know about northern soul please ask.

This song takes me back to many early 70s summer nights. With school out, a dozen or more of us would be at someone's house on the porch or sitting on the lawn. There would be 4 or 5 guitars all playing at once as we harmonized to this song.
