Rihanna and Chris Brown: if it was different...

So, we all probably know the story of what occured this Sunday to Rihanna and R&B singer, Chris Brown. For all that don't, here's a quick recap:

Rihanna had been dating R&B star Chris Brown for nearly a year. They were considered the newest prince and princess regarding celebrity relationships. However, there has been talk of volatile actions from the beginning, mostly speaking on Rihanna's jealous actions toward Chris and the attention he gets from other women.

On Saturday, following a Pre-Grammy brash thrown annually by music mogul Clive Davis (he discovered Whitney Houston), there was a bit of a crazy action that followed. No one knows the true details of how it all went down, but when it was all over, Rihanna was hospitalized for multiple bruises and Chris Brown was arrested and released for domestic violence charges.

Now, our mothers told us all growing up that you never put your hands on a woman... but then, most of us listened to that a bit too well and NEVER touched a woman, if you catch my drift. ;)

Every other mention on the celebrity front the past couple of days has been about Rihanna and Chris; whether regarding her injuries, his sponsorships being ended, etc.

But... what if Rihanna... was Ryan?

Let me clear that up: if it was a gay couple that had this sort of altercation, would the news care so much? Would it have made this many headlines? What if was Neil Patrick Harris and his life partner, David Burtka? If David was the one in the hospital and Neil had the charges against him, would it make you feel differently?

Sadly, we all know we live in a world where the only news a gay celebrity can make is when they decide to officially come out or they are "outed". So, this is the question for us all; the common public, to answer.

If this was a high profile gay couple; even a lesbian couple that we all knew and respected, would you feel as strongly about it? Would you shrug it off? Do you think the Chris/Rihanna story is being spoken on and handled a bit too much in the press?

Feel free to give your thoughts here. I'll do so later on. :)

Hugs,

Jonny Fantastico

One thing that is confusing me is that more women are for Chris Brown doing this and more men frown upon what he did. That is a total shocker for me but I guess it could show what fan base each has.

he even had an interview where he swore to never hit a woman. I lost all respect for him. Rihanna is my love, and he damaged her. Disgusting. Whatever kind of man lays his hands on a woman is no longer a man. he's scum of the earth. I liked him, but never again will I listen to/support him in anything he does.

Sometimes a man and woman do fall out on each other. Although rarely but even Gay/Lesbian couples can have this. We all has gone through this or know of this in our surroundings. It's really bad what he did as a celebrity, but to boycot him I don't agree. To call him a dead man walking goes beyond my imagination and is a criminal offence.
So arrest this Jay-Z moron at once and let's continue with the dayly events.
He who has never sinned.....etc.etc,etc!

Well... I really didnt see this comin. I saw him as a womanizer, not a woman beater... He just took 3 years off his career and anyone who applauds what he did is sick.

OMG..i'm so sick of celebs...please...stop feeding the machine ignore them please!!!!!

I'd rather hear about the real relationships and real experiences that you guys have...ok your fantasies too.

Ive been around lots of celebs and most are nothing like what the machine feeds you...nothing like it. George Clooney is a close family member and he is nothing like what the public thinks...nothing like that.

lol...he is one cousin i would sleep with..lol. he is very hot., but he isn't gay.....really.

You mean George isn't one of the nicest, most genorous and humorous men in hollywood?

As for Chris and Rihanna, who the fuck are they (sorry I have NO knowledge of pop music, I'm a metal head) but this is nothing new, remember Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown, or the Grand daddy of all disfunctional relationships Ike & Tina Turner

OK, don't take this offensively; because it isn't meant as such. But in the same way you said to stop feeding into the celebrity machine; you mention in the same breath the life of another celebrity and happen to throw out that he's your cousin. Isn't that not only feeding into the same line that you want to avoid and yet, adding fuel to the fire?

Yes, the Hollywood media is a bit in overdrive in today's world. We follow their lives as if they're close to our own; but it's all in a sense of fun or enjoyment. It's just a good conversation starter. But as you've obviously proven, you're not immune to this section of life either or you wouldn't have felt the need to not only mention that connection, but also to push forward that "sexiest man alive" title he's carried for so long.

Just sayin'...

Personally I can't tollerate any woman being hit or attacked. I don't like men being treated badly either but there is something about a man hitting a woman that raises my blood pressure!

I don't really know this story, I don't know their music but I know Rihanna simply from a lustful point of view :p I can't understand anyone wanting to treat such a gorgeous girl badly but it happens.

Stars are always big news, it's been the same the last 100 years since movies began, everyone loves gossip and everyone knows the stars so who better to gossip about.

It sells rag sheets and it creates audiences for TV news programmes.

To answer the original question, I'd feel bad about anyone in a damaging relationship, I've known some in my personal life over the years, but I have a real hatred of any guy who hits a woman!!

Yet another great talking point, Jonny. You should be a host on a phone-in radio show ;) I'd listen!

I'm just saying...the celebs I know are ordinary people....and it means nothing that i know them, other than I know what the public sees is usually BS and not a product of the Celeb at all, but a product of the machine....and it's not real.

As for George, my point was I know for sure that he isn't gay, though they (the machine) won't leave that alone for some reason.

OK, that's understandable. But it's different for us vs. you. You're apparently used to this Hollywood thing; you have a relative who is one of the biggest actors around; he travels in circles with other celebrities. For you, there is no glitz or glamour. For other people (AKA "common folk"), there is.

I realize that at the end of the day, we are no different from your common famous person. They bleed the same way we do, wipe their asses the same, etc., etc. The only difference is that they have more extravagant means to an end. So some aspire, others dream and furthermore, few follow. There's nothing really wrong with this as long as it doesn't hit an obsessive standpoint.

And let's be a bit honest here... you follow it a bit as well or at least, have a bit of a level of stardom you threw around pretty quickly. There was no need for you to mention that you had a celebrity relative, but you did so to gain that little extra something... if it really didn't matter to you, there would've been no mention of it. Again, no disrespect intended, but you're not innocent either.

Everyone, there's been some great responses to this and I know it's a bit strong on the subject, but we're totally veering from the topic... let's try to get back to that. :)

Sorry if I came on a little strong about celebrity . Its just I have worked most of my life to get away from it...not be "who's son and grandson I was"...so I'm a bit sensitive about it; I guess it's the reason I rejected my legacy..I don't want who I am defined by the machine...you have no idea, it sucks...

In that case maybe you should have never said anything about it & remained silent about knowing who you know or being who you are!

If you mention it you obviously want it known! So why mention it - it's very easy to be anonymous on a forum.

I know I can be antagonistic in my opinions but I'm direct and never mean any offence, just like a good friendly debate, so hope you don't think is anything other than that :)

XMan, that's exactly what I was trying to say, just better worded! Thanks for expressing it a bit more cleanly than I could've. And of course, none of this is meant with malice. We can have a healthy debate without dragging people through the dirt.

But I agree: on some level, I think the attention was a bit warranted and I wouldn't be surprised if his message box didn't surge a bit from that admission.

I have been around a long time, Jonny, and seen it all before ;)

There is never any malice in whatever I say (or anyone on here - they would be removed for any ill treatment!) but there is nothing wrong with good discussion ;)

Um... OK. I'm going to say this... and this goes out to everyone; once again, no offense meant... but I am a little peeved by this.

If you're going to participate in one of these threads and things happen to get a little heated... there is no need to change something you've said to make the person who originally responded to you seem like an a-hole.

Intense, you know very well that your last comment was something very much different and stronger by what is there now.

This is not the first time it's happened and I'm starting to abhor the "edit" button a bit for this reason... some people need to learn to handle the heat or get out of the kitchen. We will all disagree with things from time to time... but is making someone seem bad really the last possibility here? ~X(

I almost hesitant to spew more…but, I can't help it. I’m one stubborn son of a bitch being the product of an evil psychotic genetic experiment of English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, German, and French ancestry.

I take no offense to anyone’s post, quite the contrary; I take great pleasure in feeling the intense heat of others’ passions. However, this always needs to be pursued with mutual respect and within the rulebook of light-hearted stalking.

The editing actives of one’s self will certainly not assholify others; unless others are already on the road of self-assholification.

I do edit my post sometimes, usually for one of the following reasons:
1. My English is malformed and what I wrote doesn’t make sense or doesn’t read well.
2. I skipped words that I meant to type the first time around.
3. I have horrific typos.
4. I just like to switch words around to make them look pretty.
5. I might have been drunk.
6. I have short attention spans.
7. I have OCD with perfectionist tendencies that I cannot control.

Finally, I must insist (as I told you, I am stubborn), the primary point of my post was not construed correctly. My point was that ordinary common people are much more interesting and real; than celebs from the machine and the tabloids. I made an error by trying to explain that from the perspective of the shoes that I have been standing in when making those observations. I am not a celeb or celeb snob; I could care less about it. However, the shoes worn during the analysis makes the perspective completely different and invalid unless known.

Therefore, I renounce all my celeb associations and stand on my own special attributes. However, some people think I do resemble George Clooney for some reason. (btw, that’s a young George).

Oh well, I guess, when I become Emperor.
I will just abolish the tabloids because I despise celeb journalism.

guys…I’m just f-ing with you,

All done & hopefully forgotten, Intensepump :)

Thanks for your reply, it's very easy for online discussions to sometime get misinterpretted. One reason I always use a mic on MSN ;)

I'm a stubborn bastard too , and couldn't care what anyone thinks of me personally, but I am sensitive as to how things are perceived by others.

Mike :)

If that's the case, then all is good... not that it wasn't in the first place. No apologies needed. :)
