This 85min special is well worth a watch even though the central section gets very depressing but stick with it as it shows there is some hope later.

Have you seen the animated versions? The reason I ask is that I have seen comments that those who have seen, and enjoyed these originals will find the "live action" version a bit disappointing as it is a shot-for-shot copy of the animation?

No, I never saw the orininal animations. When you know a song, a new cover version is always going to sound wrong, even when it is good. If the new production is so similar to the old one, that is showing respect for the original, as a PR person would say.

So it was a hot day yesterday and I was tired so wanted a "dump but fun" movie - nothing to brain taxing. and as this is currently available in the UK on the Channel4 streaming site I gave it another watch. Gerrard Butler; Gary Oldman & Michael Nvqvist star in this action thriller... lots of fun!

When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.

This got great reviews and I was hoping for a funny feel-good heart-warmer but i found it boring and gave up after 30mins or so.

THUNDERBOLTS (2025)

After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes must go on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Imdb

So Marvel kill off "the Avengers" but because they need to make these movies to get the $$$$ they come up with "The New Avengers" by clubbing together all the really useless and annoying characters from the other movies and teaming them up. There's the unlikeable Winter Soldier the irritating Red Guardian for a start. The upside is I can stop watching the new generation of Marvel movies and do something else instead. What's next? The New Avengers meets The Eternals? I cannot wait to ignore that. It's the same with the TV series, over a dozen spin-offs so far. I wonder how long before there's Wolverines Weekly Workout or Vegetarian Cookery with Groot.

THE OLD GUARD 2 (2025)

The first outing was a dumb but fun action caper. This time around it's dumber and less fun. It has an incoherent "plot" that should have been shredded and re-written, flitting around the globe and alternating between deep conversations on philosophy/the meaning of friendship before flipping into a 10 to 15min punchy; slappy; shooty; stabby episode.... overall a dull movie AND it just ends with no real resolution but a main character vowing to rescue her comrades - so Vol 3 is planned. I'm bored already

Thrown straight into a dangerous mission with none of his memories intact, he must escape death while trying to figure out who he is, how he ended up here, and who is the mysterious voice in his ear calling him "Carter"? I was searching for a d/load of the truly excellent "The Night Comes For Us" and the algorithym steered me towards this Sth Korean action movie. It's bonkers! It starts of with a gore-fest with our hero slaughtering approx. 50 ? guys in a bath house... and as it's set in a bath house all the guys are wearing just jocks. The "plot" is wacko; there are teams of agents from Sth Korea; Nth Korea; the CIA; renegade CIA and who knows who else - not me. I was totally confused. The cinematographer is a huge fan of cameras attached to drones flying all over the place... seriously crazy.

btw - If you haven't seen "THE NIGHT COMES FOR US " an Indonesian classic, why the hell not????

I had a copy of THE NIGHT COMES FOR US with subtitles but due to some technical problem my TV wouldn't display them so I could only watch it on the laptop (the VLC media player being happy to show them there). Now I have found a new copy and this one has subs that my TV can show so the next time I watch it I can enjoy this awesome movie on a big 4K tv screen in all it's gory glory.

Anthony Mackie stars in this kaiju/alien creature feature where what is left of humanity lives at 8000ft above sea level as the creatures cannot go there. A solid enough cast with a few jump-scares but overall forgettable.

The excellent Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton star in this heart warming feel-good movie that celebrates human connection. Beautifully played and filmed it's an absolute joy. Recommended
