the only Apple product i use is my iPod. Sometimes I think other Apple products like iPad, iPhone, and MacBook are just so-so gadget wrapped in awesome packaging supported by excellent marketing. they become fashion statement hence the popularity. but maybe sooner or later i will have to ditch my windows based notebook and switch to Apple's mac

I thought that too - but work forced me to switch to Mac there, and within a few months I'd ordered a Mac Mini for home - if you value attention to detail and usability, or the benefits of a Unix OS, you'll appreciate that there is a lot more to a Mac than the marketing hype. For me personally, it lets me get more done with less effort and less frustration. I use a computer for 8 to 10 hours a day - small annoyances really add up when you use a computer that much, as do small features that make things just a little easier.

I'm not saying Macs are quantitatively better for everyone in every situation. Far from it. Different people have different priorities, and if a $300 from Dell meets your minimal computing needs, then even Apple's cheapest laptop at $999 seems like overkill! But, if you spend 10 hours a day in front of it, then I'd argue that spending $1,500 on a 27" LED backlit iMac is a very sound investment.

Anyhow - what I'm trying to say is, Mac computers are not pure hype, there is something very real backing up their reputation - it's earned.

Always found OSX to be more confusing that XP, Vista, definitely win7.
I just bought the new 11" MBA and tried to live with OSX but I just can't. Not my cup of tea :/

at work i use a pc - windows xp
at home a pc with both windows xp and Ubuntu, i prefer ubuntu but some applications do not work so i have to use windoof then

Although I like the looks of the macs I don't like the fact that you can't add any thing to them like an internal hard drive or additional CD/DVD hardware.

I have to say I prefer to keep as much of my stuff external as possible so I can use it with any of my computers. I may not be the typical case though - not sure how many people feel the need to have 4 computers

i dual boot windows xp and ubuntu. ubuntu works so much faster and is more responsive.

When I bought my home computer it came with Windows installed.
Since I was accustomed to having a dual-boot system and preferred Linux, I installed Fedora.

Somewhere along the line I managed to lose or corrupt one of the Windows video drivers, with the result that I cannot run Windows except with very basic 16-colour graphics and minimal functionality.

I told myself that I would stick to Linux for the time being, and at some stage I would devote time to locating and downloading the necessary Windows component so I can run things in Windows.

That was about four years ago. I have managed fine in Linux ever since. And at Uni, whenever I needed to access Windows for any reason, it annoyed me so much that it was a relief to get back into Linux.

Of course? You say that like it's a natural assumption? Like you have no choice in the matter? Like Microsoft have some sort of God-given right to you money?

There's nothing 'of course' about anyone's choice of computer or OS these days, and thank goodness for that!

I've used Microsoft software almost since they began (BASIC, DOS, Windows, NT, Vista, Windows 7). I know Windows from the core up.

A year ago I decided to try out a Mac, since that's what the rest of my family uses. My MacBook Pro was great hardware and OS X and the other Mac software worked well. But after six months I was still getting frustrated when I tried to do things that were second nature to me in Windows. In the end I sold the MacBook on eBay and bought a high powered HP laptop. I'm much happier. I know Windows too well to be satisfied with a system I'm not all that familiar with. Which, of course is not Apple's fault.
