I've done both as a top and enjoyed it as a fun experiment. I think for both the top has to be 100% tuned in to what makes the experience good for the bottom - both physically and also in giving them the whole scene that will get them off.

Fisting in particular has to be done slowly and with lots of feedback from the bottom as to what feels good and what doesn't. It is ALL about the bottom - which is maybe why I find it boring to watch in porn. The top is servicing the bottom.
