Through out the house the music played. Through out the room, down the hall, into the parlor and the kitchen, up the stairs, all the way up to the support beams in the attic and down to the gravel in the basement.
“Leaving? What do you mean you're leaving?”
Over furniture and rugs, pictures and ornaments, into dust filled rooms and out into the garden it flowed. A haunting melody. Filled with sadness and despair, anger and fright. Filled with so much emotion that seemed to pour out from the fingers and into the piano keys. Black and white.
“But why? Why are you leaving?”
An image, a picture, a whole new world painted with bony fingers dancing on the black and white stage. Slowly, quickly. Soothing, demanding. A lonely figure hunched over the piano.
“You can't leave me. You can never leave me. I don't want to be left alone. You said we'd always be together. I'll keep you here with me for always.”
Eyes staring at the notes without seeing. Ears listening to the music without hearing. Only fingers dancing. Moving. Absorbing the notes and the melody. Pouring out emotions in it's stead.
“This way we'll be together for always.”
Bony fingers danced on that black and white stage. Staining it with red.
