Speaking of coffee... I recently grew tired of what passes for coffee these days... drip coffee, that is. I don't like the Mr. Coffee makers, the Keurig coffee makers, Melitta funnel coffee makers or Bunn coffee makers like at convenience stores or restaurants.
I have reverted to my childhood memories of coffee my parents made.
My grandparents made boiled coffee in a pot on the stove. Boil the water then add coffee grounds to boil for 5 minutes or so then let it settle down for a couple of minutes before pouring a steamy cup. It was good.
My parents were slightly more civilized. They used percolators. Fill the basket nice and full then perk for 7 minutes, let it rest a few minutes then pour a nice hot cup of real, full-bodied coffee. It has all the goodness of the coffee bean stock and oils missing in drip coffee. You can perc it for as long or as little as you like. I make mine extra strong. It's stout.
And before anyone mentions it I left out french press coffee makers on purpose. It's better than drip coffee but no where near as good as perked.
I've never been to Turkey and I've never tasted real Turkish coffee but I know I would love it if it's half as good as perked.
