21 people have been killed at the love parade in Duisburg

15 people are dead and at least 50 more were injured because of a mass panic... What a bad day...

The people had to walk closely packed through a tunnel to enter the parade. Some got into a panick and some of them fell down...

The cheerful intention of the event makes it even more tragic. Masses can get out of control (physical and psychical). The results are always disastrous. Life isn't always fair.

Obviously the full facts of why this appalling tragedy happened are still to come out but historicaly the event attracted 100,000 + people (and there are claims that this year was over a million) and it seems unbelieveable that the authorities could have decided to only have ONE access point to the parade arena, and through a tunnel too.

Many years ago I got caught in a crowd to buy concert tickets, people kept crowding into the room behind us and it was getting very serious. Luckily no one panicked and all ended well. It was very frightening and I remember it 20 years later.

I live near Duisburg and there where several people, who said, that it could be very dangerous. But it is alway the same. Money rules, so they ignored it as usual...

I don't get it. Why do people apways have to be that dumb and run, scream and continue to run into the Crowd when they see that there are too much ppl to get it. It just sounds so dumb. I would never do that. Also there was no reason to get into panic as there was no fire or something. *Kopfschüttel*

I was so free to change the title. Until now 20 people are dead.

Though I'm a bit happy that I heard of my friend who was in Duisburg on Saturday. Fortunately he wasn't in the tunnel.

What makes me really angry now is that nobody is ready to take the responsibility for that.
They call it a tragic event.
There is no tragic in it.
Tragic is something that has to do with fate, something that is unforseen.

This was not unforseen.
People said before that this would happen.
The event was poorly planned and security issues were wiped away by politicians and the event manager.

What happened on Saturday was involuntary manslaughter in 21 cases and bodily injury caused by negligence in over 500 cases.
But I see it coming that nobody will be made responsible for it.

The thing is, we know now that the security concept they had was poor... very poor.
The event should have never been allowed.

The city of Duisburg allowed it because the major wanted the good publicity for the town.
You must know that last year Bochum canceled the parade because the concept wasn't save enough and everybody was complaning.
Now everybody says that Bochum was right and that the major of Bochum should resign.
The reason why he doesn't want to? Because then, he says, he would be responsible for 21 death for the rest of his life.

I say it doesn't matter, he already is, he just doesn't want to loose his pension.

Surely there will be a full and formal inquiry? In any case it received a lot of attention in the media across many countries... so hopefully that will raise awareness.
