A son of our Queen had a tragic accident. I am not a royalist, but human drama touches me. His beloved will endure terrible times.
Watching the news I get a feeling of unease. Is it compassion what I feel or a penchant for spectacle, cheap curiosity? Decency is like balancing on a slack rope. As the news progresses I get convinced that I feel compassion, but about the feelings of the people in the media I have my doubts. The way they bring the news let me feel as if I am standing in the front row as a Peeping Tom. Something I do not normally. The press seems to have other standards. They take part in the event, no, even worse, they take their part of the event and merchandise it. Or the victims want to, or not, is not an issue.
