In ancient Egypt (the technology capital of its time) cir
cision was practiced as a form of hygiene and was adopted by the semitic tribes under its power. This is where we get the concept of a foreskin as unclean. In America, cir
cision was not the norm until the 19th century when it was promoted by the Quaker Dr. Kellogg and other pseudo-scientists for the prevention of blindness, hirsuteness, and insanity caused by "self-abuse". Patients were encouraged to refrain from eating meat and rely mainly on bland grains in order to keep the dreaded libido in check. For most Americans, cir
cision was not a choice that they made, but one that their parents were (and are) encouraged to make at birth. When I asked my parents why I was cir
cised, they only felt that I should "fit in" with the other guys. Four years ago, when my little nephew was born, his mother was approached three times by nurses at the hospital even though she was adamant about her choice to keep him intact.
I feel that routine cir
cision is ridiculous and that it will not be the norm in future generations. I do, however, respect the right of every man to decide for himself.
