I say this 'almost' tongue-in-cheek but there is some truth to it at least in my personal opinion.

As world super-powers rattle their sabers and make threats, draw lines in the sand and act like the fools they are at heart I've been doing some stockpiling of my own.

Most if not all servers that act as the 'Gay Porn Cloud' are located outside of the U.S.A. The internet is still open for business right now but what if some idiot (not to call any names but you probably know which 'idiot') does something to interrupt the internet. Or maybe he starts a conflict that turns very ugly. Will you have enough Gay Porn stockpiled for that long, cold "Web Winter"?

I think I've done a good job of Gay Porn Doom's Day Preparations. I have 12+ Tbs of files safely stored on hard drives. From vintage to current. From solos to orgies. All Bareback I might add. I'm a little light on BDSM but I'm working on that as I type

How 'bout you? Have you done your Gay Porn Doom's Day Preparations? Do you have enough to last you in case the Web goes dark?

Yes, I too have a stash. About 6 Tb. I've aculated it over six or so years. I do it because files are deleted so quickly. If you don't get it now it will disappear. I don't see "end times" coming--but I feel prepared.

Sure they'll go ON and ON about having beans and rice stored for the next 50 years or how they will be able to turn their own urine back into drinking water...(EEEEWWWWW!!!!!! Stop worrying, it isn't going to happen. Mr Putin would love to have a system like the Great Firewall of China that allows total government control of internet use in the country. That system relies on a vast army of low paid reliable trustworthy state monitors. Now imagine that set up in Putin's Russia. Some of the thousands of monitors would fail to turn in for work, some would come in drunk, the rest would only be doing the job for the bribes and blackmail opportunities. Mr P would also like to get his hands on the sort of technology GCHQ uses, even he did, that tech is designed for state surveillence rather than state suppression. So stay calm and carry on wanking.

I agree that is one scenario but let's not forget who owns and controls the internet with hardwired backdoors in every server. If the CIA wants to shut down access to all servers in another country it probably would not be that hard.

In that case they would risk killing the Golden Goose of data and communications info gathering software. That would be like cutting off their nose to spite their face.

It may not be the end of the world if you do what garth did. There is a protection diode which is designed to blow, with stinky smoke, in case of polarity reversal. If it blows fast enough the rest of the circuit is saved. An expert could probably make the drive work again for long enough to make a backup, but such expertise does not come cheap.
