ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT
now as well an aspirant for the OSCAR! But - and that is MY opinion - the film is really good and worth watching. Only the end is in my opinion really bad and has nothing to do with the book. Contrary to this new film the old one from 1930 is much, much better with a much more tragic end. And the end is originally the end of the book!

I agree with all you say, and I remember the controversy about it's plot straying away from the book. As it turns out, of my 5 correct predictions 3 were for this movie. One reason I didn't pick it for best film was (apart from being blown away by The Banshees Of Inisherin) that it is a rare thing that a foriegn language film picks up the big prizes which makes it's success at the BAFTAs even more special

That's correct! Films made from books mostly fall wide apart. True! But here really only the title is identical with the book. Read the book by E.M.Remarque and watch the film from 1930 and you will find here every page of the book in the film.
