July 4th question

I feel like I celebrate the 4th July, mainly because I have an American couple next door to me and a family that live at the back of me. So I get a lot of fireworks

I have dual UK/US citizenship so I never know what's the appropriate way to celebrate the holiday.

I then ask them if England's calendar goes from the 3rd to the 5th.

We don't do 4th of July here of course. Well obviously we have the date, but it's not our anniversary. that happens on January 26th.
All the major cities have a big Skyshow event (fireworks) just after sundown. Something like that once a year is good. Fireworks can be overdone - I used to live in Sydney where any occasion seems to be an excuse for fireworks, even the weekly rugby matches. There is not THAT much difference between one fireworks display and another, and if you see them too often they become ho-hum.
Most countries seem to have their national day in summer, whether by accident or design. France has theirs in July - Italy's is either June or July, I forget which - New Zealand have theirs in February which of course is summer for them as it is for us. I guess when our ancestors founded the various countries they thought "We'll wait for the summer months to do it, so that future generations will have nice warm weather for the holiday."
