R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

I believe he merits the title of Grand Old Man of Science fiction, probably more so than Isaac Asimov or Arthur C Clarke. It's also the case that many of his stories were not science fiction at all. Many were straight-out fantasy, and many were neither fantasy nor SF, just poignant observations on the human condition.

In an astonishing coincidence, I happen to have two books of his short stories on hand, borrowed from two different libraries. The Golden Apples of the Sun is highly recommended - a collection af a couple of dozen short stories, some SF, some fantasy, some neither, but each one a gem. Some of his stories were made into films, but he is an author who really need to be READ, not watched on the screen. It's not just the stories, it's the way in which they are told that is so magical.

At the end of that clip he says "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture; all you have to do is get people to stop reading them."

The Martian Chronicles was the first novel i read from Bradbury, when i was a teenager and it's a wonderful book. Then i read Fahrenheit 451, and i think everyone should read this book.
I also read The Illustrated Man, Something Wicked This Way Come and From The Dust Returned.
He was a really great author, it's a great loss.

Always rated him as one of the masters of his genre, although he was in a class of his own.

RIP. Ray Bradbury, you've been an inspiration to many artists, writers, readers and fans. As mentioned above, this is a major loss as he is one of a kind and a master of his genre.

i was truly saddened to hear this news. i read so very very many of his books and stories, most of which i still remember vividly.

... and to this day, one of his less known works remains one of my very favourites .. Dandelion Wine

I did not like reading as a child. Never held my imagination ...

Until I had to read Fahrenheit 451 for school and a book lover was born.

I then sought out the Martian Chronicles and he became my favorite author. The Illustrated Man and Something Wicked This Way Come are great reads. I think that Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most important books written in the 20th century.

RIP Bradbury.
